Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Bu Yunchaokete in the second round of the 2025 Winston-Salem Open. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19. Here’s our Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Bu Yunchaokete prediction. This preview will also include a Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Bu Yunchaokete pick.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Bu Yunchaokete Preview
Stefanos Tsitsipas took a wild card to play in Winston-Salem this week, clearly sending a message that he’s far from pleased with his form heading to the US Open. He’s ranked 29th in the latest rankings, and he’s probably fortunate to hold onto a seeding spot for the 2025 US Open. But the Greek is having his worst season on tour since he broke through back in 2019. Tsitsipas has won 21 matches and lost 17 times.
Tsitsipas’ only highlight this season was winning the ATP 500 in Dubai, but he’s had a rough time since. He’s failed to win back-to-back matches on tour since the Barcelona Open, where he retired from the quarterfinals due to injury. He’s recently parted ways with Goran Ivanisevic and reunited with his father Apostolos, whom he has tasked to take over coaching duties. Their fresh partnership began in Canada, where Tsitsipas lost his opening match to Christopher O’Connell. Tsitsipas picked up his first win this swing in Cincinnati when he beat Fabian Marozsan, but lost in his next match to Benjamin Bonzi in three sets. This is the first time he’s participating in the ATP 250 in Winston-Salem.
Bu Yunchaokete has already played a match in Winston-Salem, winning his first round against Chun Hsin Tseng in three sets in the most dramatic match of the opening day of the tournament. The match lasted three hours and 14 minutes. Tseng trailed 2-4 in the first set, but still won it in the tiebreak. Bu played some great tennis to break Tseng once in the second set and eventually level the match. The third set stayed on serve throughout and it took another tiebreak to settle it, and it was Bu who raced to win it 7-4.
Bu hit nine aces and four double faults in the victory. He landed 52% of first serves in play and won 83% of first serve points (45/54). He won 55% of second serve points (27/49) and saved three of five break points. Bu picked up only his 15th win of a difficult season, which hasn’t quite matched his 2024 campaign. But he has an opportunity to add to Tsitsipas’ woes in Winston-Salem.

Tsitsipas and Bu have never met at any level.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Bu Yunchaokete Prediction
Tsitsipas has been on a freefall since the Barcelona Open and worryingly, this has not been his favorite phase of the season, with the US Open arguably his worst Grand Slam in terms of productivity. Bu has not set the world alight either this season, coming off his 2024 breakthrough and struggling for consistency this year, but he’s still explosive when he is dialed in, and at this moment, he’s likelier to get into positions to dictate points. His footwork could be the difference in what is a very unpredictable match.
