These two teams just faced off on Friday, with Vegas picking up the 4-0 win.

Golden Knights Look to Bounce Back

The Golden Knights, in the last game, faced off against the LA Kings, and they were strong, with the offense scoring five goals, but the defense couldn’t make the stops, and they ended up losing by a goal. Tomas Hertl did have a strong game, scoring three goals, and he helped pace the offensive output. Adin Hill was in goal, and he wasn’t good enough, saving only 29 of the 35 shots he faced. The defense didn’t do him any favors, allowing the 35 shots on goal.

Vegas is averaging 3.36 goals, while their defense is giving up 2.73 goals. The defense is ranked 9th, which made it slightly more shocking how bad they looked against the Kings. The Golden Knights are dealing with key injuries that could impact this game. William Karlsson is dealing with a lower-body injury and is questionable for this game. Shea Theodore is dealing with an arm injury, and it’s unclear how long he will be out.  Ilya Samsonov is expected to get the start in goal, and he sits with a 15-8-2 record overall, giving up 2.80 goals per game. In his last start against the Pittsburgh Penguins, he saved all 22 shots he faced.

Why the Golden Knights Will Beat the Penguins

  • The Penguins have lost each of their last six Tuesday games.
  • The Golden Knights have won each of their last three games against Metropolitan Division opponents.
  • The Penguins have failed to cover the puck line in each of their last four night games.
  • The Golden Knights have covered the puck line in five of their last six games as favorites.
  • The favorites have won the third period in four of the Penguins’ last five games at PPG Paints Arena.

Can the Penguins Build on the Last Game?

The Penguins played the Minnesota Wild in the last game, and they looked impressive. Tristan Jarry was in goal and saved 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury shared the ice for the last time, and the Penguins legend got the better of the matchup, scoring two goals. In the previous two games, the Penguins scored a grand total of one goal.

It has been mostly a disappointing season, and the stats have been awful overall. The Penguins are averaging only 2.82 goals, while their defense is giving up 3.59 goals per game. The goaltending hasn’t been good enough for the team, but the biggest issue has been with the shots that they are facing. They have to do a better job of limiting shots on goal. Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to get the start in goal, and he has left a lot to be desired. He sits with a 12-14-5 record and gives up 3.17 goals per game. He does have one shutout on the season.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction

If we need an indication of how this game will go, we only need to look back a few days ago when these two teams faced off. The Penguin’s offense has been such a problem all season, and even in the last game against the Minnesota Wild, when they won, the first two periods of their offense were basically ice cold. I don’t trust Nedelijkovic in goal. Vegas is averaging 3.36 goals, and they just ran up the score against the Penguins last weekend. Vegas is 5-0 in their last five games against the Eastern Conference. Back the Golden Knights on the puck line to cash.

Shane Mickle's Pick: Vegas Golden Knights -1.5
