Blanchfield enters this fight with a 13-2 record and is coming off a win over Rose Namajunas at UFC Fight Night 246. In the victory, Blanchfield landed 193 total strikes and produced a couple of takedowns. Blanchfield has a black belt in BJJ and has seen seven of her 13 wins come by decision. Each of Blanchfield’s last three fights have ended by decision, and she’s never been finished despite two losses.

Blanchfield is averaging 5.24 strikes per minute and defends takedowns at 80 percent. Blanchfield is going to stay busy and keep the fight where she wants it. At 26 years old, Blanchfield is in the prime of her career and putting pressure on the rest of the flyweight division.

Barber is 14-2 for her career and has won each of her last six fights. Barber is coming off a decision win over Katlyn Cerminara at UFC 299. Barber hasn’t fought in over a year as she’s been battling health issues that included a nine-day hospital stay where she admitted she felt like she was going to die. Barber is a purple belt in BJJ and a black belt in karate. Barber has seen six of 14 wins come by knockout and six others came by decision.

Barber has never been finished despite two career losses. Barber has a violent ground and pound with most of her finishes coming by elbows, and she lands 53 percent of her strikes. Barber is also an effective takedown artist with an accuracy percentage of 43 percent. Barber has above-average power for this division, so if she lands something clean, she’s a threat to spring an upset.   

Blanchfield vs Barber Prediction

It’s going to be interesting to see how Barber looks after the long layoff and the health scares. You can still make a case for Barber and the plus money due to her striking on her feet and her raw power. However, I’m siding with Blanchfield due to less question marks, her scrappiness and her grappling. Blanchfield can keep the fight where she wants it and her defense is solid, so if she wants to stay standing up, she can hold her own.

Blanchfield has also fought back-to-back five round fights, while Barber has never fought outside of the third round. The higher level BJJ is probably the difference here, giving Blanchfield has a massive advantage. I’ll take Blanchfield to win inside distance.
