The Washington Nationals and the New York Mets will meet on Friday night in the opening game of a three game National League East series at Citi Field in Queens, New York.

Washington Nationals Betting Preview

The Washington Nationals enter Friday’s contest with a 60–63 overall record (4th in the National League East) and a robust 33–27 mark on the road. The Nationals offense has been competitive to this point in the season. Through 123 games played in 2026, Washington has compiled 662 runs scored (1st in MLB), 213 doubles (5th in MLB), a .252 team batting average and 177 home runs which ranks first in Major League Baseball.

The Nationals arrive at tomorrow night’s good in good form. Washington has won four of the team’s last six games played this season, including a 7–1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds last week.

Washington will turn to left hander Andrew Alvarez in this game. In nine starts made this season, Alvarez has compiled a 2–3 win loss record, a 3.76 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP and 65 strikeouts, while allowing 65 hits and 32 walks in 69.1 innings pitched. Andrew Alvarez arrives at this contest in good form, allowing two earned runs or fewer in three of his last four starts made in 2026. Alvarez will look to continue his recent strong performances on the mound in tomorrow’s matchup with the New York Mets.

The Nationals lineup features shortstop CJ Abrams. Abrams enters this contest with a .284 batting average (20th in MLB), an .898 OPS, 91 RBIs (1st in MLB) and 29 home runs which ranks 20th in Major League Baseball.

New York Mets Betting Preview

The New York Mets enter Friday night’s matchup with a 53–69 overall record (5th in the National League East) and a 25–34 mark at home. New York has played subpar baseball recently, losing three of the team’s last five games, including an 4–0 shutout defeat to the Atlanta Braves two days ago.

New York will start right hander Robert Stock in tomorrow’s game. In two starts made in 2026, Stock has compiled an 0–2 record, a dreadful 10.13 ERA, a 2.13 WHIP, and 8 strikeouts, while allowing 12 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings pitched. Stock struggled in his most recent outing, allowing eight earned runs in the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0 loss to the New York Mets five days ago.

The New York Mets lineup features Bo Bichette and Carson Benge. Bo Bichette enters this contest with a .262 batting average, 12 home runs, 61 RBIs and a .690 OPS. Carson Benge has compiled a .274 batting average and 13 home runs.

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets Prediction

In my opinion, this matchup favors the Washington Nationals. Why? Washington has played quality baseball on the road, amassing a 33-27 win-loss record. Additionally, Nationals starting pitcher Andrew Alvarez arrives at this contest in good form, allowing two earned runs or fewer in three of his last four starts made in 2026. Conversely, New York hurler Robert Stock struggled in his most recent outing, allowing eight earned runs in the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0 loss to the New York Mets five days ago. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Washington Nationals on the moneyline in this game.
