Colorado Rockies vs Detroit Tigers Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Rockies at Tigers at 1:10 PM ET
Ryan Feltner is set to take the mound for the Rockies, possessing a record of 2-10 and an ERA of 4.96. In his latest outing against the Milwaukee Brewers, he pitched six innings, surrendering just two hits and one run.
The Tigers will have Tarik Skubal as their starting pitcher, who currently has a record of 16 wins and 4 losses, with an ERA of 2.53. In his previous game against the Oakland Athletics, he pitched for 5.2 innings, giving up a total of nine hits and two runs.
The Pick:
I would like to highlight the performance of Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers in this discussion. Ryan Feltner has recently shown promise with a strong start; however, his season has been fraught with inconsistencies. Presently, he has an ERA of 4.96, and it is expected that he will face considerable difficulties in this contest. The Tigers are likely to exploit his shortcomings, resulting in a significant scoring advantage. This offensive capability will be crucial in the game’s outcome. That said, I am going with the Tigers and a run line.
Cincinnati Reds vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Reds at Cardinals at 1:15 PM ET
Jakub Junis will get the start for the Reds on Thursday. The 31-year-old reliever is 0-0 in 11 games (2 starts) this year and holds a 3.24 ERA. Junis is 42-45 with an ERA of 4.52 in 189 (113 starts) career games.
Sonny Gray is scheduled to take the mound for St. Louis on Thursday. This season, he holds a record of 12 wins and 9 losses, accompanied by an ERA of 3.84 over 26 starts. Throughout his career, Gray has achieved a record of 110 wins and 94 losses, with a career ERA of 3.50 across 305 games, of which 296 were starts.
The Pick:
In a game against Minnesota on August 24, Gray struggled, completing 6.0 innings while conceding five earned runs in a loss. Nevertheless, he has bounced back since then, recording a 1-0 record with merely two earned runs over 13.0 innings in his last two starts. The Cardinals encountered another challenging offensive performance on Wednesday; however, their pitching was impressive enough to clinch a win. As they prepare for the final match on Thursday, St. Louis will need to enhance their offensive output, but I am confident they have a favorable chance of getting a victory.
Oakland Athletics vs Houston Astros Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Athletics at Astros at 2:10 PM ET
The anticipated starting pitcher for the Oakland team is Mitch Spence, who currently holds a record of 7-9, accompanied by a 4.42 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP across 130.1 innings pitched this season. Spence has successfully limited his opponents to two earned runs or fewer in his last three outings; however, he did concede eight hits in his most recent appearance, which lasted 4.1 innings.
Framber Valdez is set to be the starting pitcher for Houston, holding a season record of 14 victories and 6 defeats, with an impressive 2.97 ERA and a WHIP of 1.09 over 157.1 innings. In his most recent three starts, Valdez has surrendered just three earned runs.
The Pick:
Oakland has had a challenging season on the road, but they have shown considerable grit and have performed admirably over the past two months. Both pitchers have been effective recently; however, Valdez has elevated his game to an extraordinary level, establishing himself as one of the finest pitchers in Major League Baseball this season. Consequently, backing the Astros at -1.5 is a smart choice in this scenario.
Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Marlins at Nationals at 6:45 PM ET
Darren McCaughan is set to be the starting pitcher for Miami, with a season record of 0-0, a 7.40 ERA, and a 1.85 WHIP through 24.1 innings of play. In his last two outings, he has given up five earned runs in 8.2 innings.
The starting pitcher projected for Washington is Mitchell Parker, who has a season record of 7-9, with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 136.0 innings. In his last two appearances, Parker has allowed a total of seven earned runs in 9.1 innings of work.
The Pick:
Both teams find themselves at the bottom of the NL East standings, and I hold concerns regarding the starting pitchers for each side. Although Parker has shown promise for the Nationals this season, his form has declined significantly in the past few weeks. I expect to see a considerable number of runs in this matchup, yet I see an opportunity to support the Marlins against Parker. I suggest taking Miami in this contest.
Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Rays at Guardians at 7:15 PM
For the starting role on Thursday, the Rays will feature Ryan Pepiot. As it stands, Pepiot has an 8-6 record, a 3.66 ERA, and has recorded 118 strikeouts. Throughout his career, which includes 39 appearances and 32 starts, he has maintained a record of 13 wins and 7 losses, with a 3.29 ERA.
Gavin Williams will assume the starting position on Thursday. This season, he has recorded a 3-8 win-loss record with a 5.25 ERA across 13 starts. In his career, spanning 29 starts, Williams holds a record of 6-13 with a 4.12 ERA.
The Pick:
Williams must deliver a strong performance if Cleveland hopes to secure a victory. He recently suffered a defeat against the Dodgers, allowing five earned runs in just 0.2 innings. Before this outing, Williams recorded a 1-1 record with three earned runs over 12.0 innings across two starts. In their last game on Wednesday, the Guardians achieved 10 hits as a team, although they also committed three errors during the win. The positive aspect is that Cleveland experienced only one challenging inning, and their early offensive efforts were sufficient for a successful outcome. I am optimistic about the Guardians maintaining their momentum on Thursday.
Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Red Sox at Yankees at 7:15 PM ET
The starting pitcher for the Red Sox will be Cooper Criswell, who has a record of 6-4 and an ERA of 4.11. In his previous start against the Chicago White Sox, he pitched for five innings, giving up six hits and two runs.
Nestor Cortes will take the mound for the Yankees, currently holding a record of 9-10 and an ERA of 3.97. In his most recent appearance against the Chicago Cubs, he pitched 4.1 innings without allowing any hits or runs.
The Pick:
The Red Sox enter this game with a sense of confidence; however, that confidence is likely to be challenged. Nestor Cortes Jr. is coming off an impressive performance, and one can expect a similar outcome in this matchup. The Red Sox’s offense is anticipated to face significant difficulties in generating runs, which will ultimately be the deciding factor, allowing the Yankees to secure a victory. I am backing the Yankees on the run line.
Texas Rangers vs Seattle Mariners Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Rangers at Mariners at 9:40 PM ET
Kumar Rocker is set to make his debut in Major League Baseball this evening. Throughout his minor league career, he recorded a 2-3 win-loss record, an impressive 2.78 earned run average, and achieved 97 strikeouts. During his three years at Vanderbilt, Rocker posted a 28-10 record with a 2.89 ERA and accumulated 321 strikeouts. He is recognized as a top-100 prospect in baseball and is regarded as the second-best prospect within the Texas Rangers organization, with only Sebastian Walcott ranked above him.
The Seattle Mariners will have Bryce Miller on the mound, who currently holds an 11-8 record with a 3.18 ERA and 151 strikeouts for the season. In his last 10.2 innings pitched, he has given up 7 hits and 3 runs. At home, Miller has excelled with a 2.03 ERA and an opponent batting average of .180 across 84.1 innings. Nevertheless, his performance against the Texas Rangers has been less than favorable, as he is 0-3 with a 12.66 ERA and 9 strikeouts in his career.
The Pick:
Typically, I tend to overlook pitchers who are making their major league debut due to the uncertainty surrounding their performance. However, Kumar Rocker stands out as an exceptional case; he is a top-100 prospect with the potential to become a leading starter in the rotation. This alone merits consideration, especially given the attractive odds. The Seattle Mariners appear to be improving, yet they have disappointed us on numerous occasions this season just when we began to have faith in them. I prefer the Rangers, especially with a promising young talent on the mound and at a better price.
Milwaukee Brewers vs San Francisco Giants Prediction MLB Picks 9/12/24
Brewers at Giants at 9:45 PM ET
In this game, the Brewers will have Frankie Montas as their starting pitcher. This season, he has recorded 6 victories and 10 defeats, with an ERA of 4.69 and 120 strikeouts. Throughout his career, Montas has not yet registered a win or a loss against the Cincinnati team, holding a career ERA of 3.24 and accumulating 17 strikeouts in those encounters.
Hayden Birdsong is set to take the mound for the Giants in this matchup. He currently holds a record of 3-5, accompanied by a 5.19 ERA, and has achieved 64 strikeouts throughout the season. This marks Birdsong’s second career start against the Brewers.
The Pick:
I find it difficult to place my trust in either of the starting pitchers involved in this game. The Brewers’ decision to bring Montas on board was, at the time, confusing to me. On the other hand, the Brewers have shown a stronger performance against right-handed pitchers this season, which complicates my ability to side with Birdsong. I believe this matchup will be more competitive; however, I anticipate that we will witness a significant number of runs once again. I would suggest considering the Over.
