The Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Angels will meet on Friday night in the opening game of a three‑game American League series at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

The Detroit Tigers enter Friday’s contest with a 44-52 overall record (4th in the American League Central) and a 17–29 mark on the road. The Tigers offense has been inconsistent to this point in the season. Through 96 games played in 2026, Detroit has compiled 407 runs scored (21st in MLB), 138 doubles, 115 home runs and a .235 team batting average which ranks a rather low 25th in Major League Baseball.

The Tigers arrive at tomorrow’s game in below average form. Detroit has lost two consecutive games, including a 5–0 shutout loss to the Philadelphia Phillies four days ago.

Detroit will turn to right hander Troy Melton in this game. In eight starts made this season, Melton has compiled a 5–1 win‑loss record, a 1.82 ERA, a 0.81 WHIP and 41 strikeouts, while allowing 29 hits and 11 walks in 49.1 innings pitched. Troy Melton arrives at this contest in good form, allowing one or fewer earned runs in four consecutive starts made in 2026. Melton will look to build on his recent strong performances on the mound in tomorrow’s matchup with the Los Angeles Angels.

Shifting our focus to the Tigers offense, the Detroit lineup features catcher Dillon Dingler and outfielder Riley Greene. Dillon Dingler has amassed 19 home runs (25th in MLB), 60 RBIs (17th in MLB), 19 doubles, 23 walks and an .831 OPS. Riley Greene has compiled a robust .288 batting average (20th in MLB), 13 home runs, 19 doubles, 51 walks, 45 RBIs and an .842 OPS.

Los Angeles Angels Betting Preview

The Los Angeles Angels enter Friday night’s matchup with a 38-59 overall record (5th in the American League West) and a 21–25 mark at home. Los Angeles has played subpar baseball recently, losing ten of the team’s last twelve games played this season, including a 5–3 loss to the Minnesota Twins last week.

Los Angeles will start left hander Reid Detmers in tomorrow’s game. In nineteen starts made in 2026, Detmers has compiled a 3–6 record, a 4.39 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and a whopping 123 strikeouts which ranks 11th in Major League Baseball, while allowing 89 hits and 35 walks in 108.2 innings pitched. Reid Detmers has struggled recently, allowing five or more earned runs in three of his last four starts made this season.

The Angels lineup features Jo Adell and Mike Trout. Jo Adell enters this matchup with a .245 batting average, 11 home runs, 15 doubles, 11 walks, 47 RBIs and a .677 OPS. Outfielder Mike Trout has amassed 17 home runs, 12 doubles, 66 walks, 36 RBIs and an .866 OPS.

Why the Detroit Tigers will win.

• Offensive upside. Riley Greene and Dillon Dingler continue to lead the Tigers lineup.

• Starting pitching. In eight starts made this season, Troy Melton has compiled a 5–1 win‑loss record, a 1.82 ERA, a 0.81 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 49.1 innings pitched.

Why the Los Angeles Angels will win.

• Home field edge. Los Angeles has played competitive baseball at Angel Stadium this season.

• Offensive production. Mike Trout and Jo Adell provide a strong core to the Angels lineup.

Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Detroit Tigers. Why? Detroit starting pitcher Troy Melton arrives at this contest in good form, allowing one or fewer earned runs in four consecutive starts made in 2026. Conversely, Los Angeles hurler Reid Detmers has struggled recently, allowing five or more earned runs in three of his last four starts made this season. With that said, the Tigers are the clear side to be on in this one. I am backing the Detroit Tigers on the moneyline in this game.
