Rider Broncs Betting Preview

Rider had a rough losing streak this year that lasted from late November into early January. Outside of that, however, they’re not doing too badly. The Broncs went 4-2 in their first six, then fell versus Villanova, Delaware, Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Stony Brook, Penn, NC State, Manhattan, and Canisius from there. After wins over Niagara, Mount St. Mary’s, and Marist, Rider took losses to Iona, Quinnipiac, Merrimack, and Sacred Heart over their next five outings. Since then it’s been consecutive wins over Siena and Iona. That gives the Broncs a 10-15 overall record through the first 25 games of the 2024-25 season.

In the Iona matchup on Friday, the Broncs came out of the first half with a 45-36 deficit. Rider finished strong though, taking a 38-26 advantage in the second half on the way to a 74-71 comeback victory. Leading the team in the dramatic win was Zion Cruz with 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. TJ Weeks added 17 points with eight boards and two assists, while both Tank Byard and Ruben Rodriguez each had 11 bench points.

Saint Peter’s Peacocks Betting Preview

Over on the Saint Peter’s side, they’ve got one or two brief runs of solid play in the books but otherwise, it’s been a struggle in the record column. The Peacocks went 4-3 in their first seven outings with wins over UMBC, Saint Elizabeth, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Duquesne in that time. Saint Peter’s hit a 3-5 stretch after that, falling to Manhattan, Iona, Quinnipiac, Niagara, and Marist alongside wins over Delaware, Canisius, and Sacred Heart. Following losses to Merrimack, Rider, Mount St. Mary’s, Siena, and Manhattan, the Peacocks took a win over Fairfield to give the team an 8-13 record through 21 games so far this year.

Matched up against Fairfield on Friday, the Peacocks were up 25-22 going into the second half. Saint Peter’s kept it going from there on a 40-30 run and took the victory 65-52 in the end. Armoni Zeigler led the team with 14 bench points and six rebounds in 18 minutes of work. Bryce Eaton came off the bench for 13 points and three rebounds, while Marcus Randolph led the starters with his 13 points, three rebounds, two steals, and one assist in 37 minutes.

Why the Saint Peter’s Peacocks will win

  • Saint Peter’s has won each of its last six day games following a home win.
  • Rider has lost six of its last eight day games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Rider Broncs will win

  • Saint Peter’s has lost six of its last seven games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at Yanitelli Center.
  • Rider has won each of its last three games at Yanitelli Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Saint Peter’s has lost the first half in three of its last four day games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at Yanitelli Center.

Rider vs Saint Peter’s Prediction

I’m going to stay with Rider. There’s not a lot to get excited about here if you’re not a fan of either team, though. The Broncs had a rough first half against Iona in their last outing, but to their credit, they finished strong for the win. Rider notched a solid 42-31 rebounding edge but also had 11 turnovers for 18 Gaels points. The Broncs are sitting on consecutive wins now, but both have been very close games.

The Broncs took a 67-64 home win the last time these teams met up back on January 31. Rider had a bad second half (a 39-33 deficit) in that one and shot just 2-of-11 (18.2 percent) from 3-point range with 11 turnovers. It’s going to take a much cleaner effort to cover in the road rematch, so I’m staying away.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Rider Broncs +4.5
