Central Michigan Chippewas Betting Preview

The Chippewas have had a choppy campaign so far this year, with instances of both solid play and rough runs. Central Michigan opened on a 5-3 stretch with wins over South Alabama, George Mason, Central State OH, Purdue Northwest, and Aquinas among losses to Stony Brook, Marquette, and Minnesota. A 1-6 record came in the next seven outings, with a lone win over Cleary University among losses to Valparaiso, Mississippi State, Arizona, Ohio, Akron, and Toledo. Since then the Chippewas have looked better on a 3-1 stretch. The loss at that time was versus Ball State. Otherwise, it was wins over Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan, giving Central Michigan a 9-10 overall record through the first 19 outings.

The Chippewas didn’t have too many issues on Saturday in the Western Michigan game. Central Michigan was up 34-23 by the break, then cruised on a 39-29 stretch the rest of the way for a 73-52 blowout win. Leading the team in scoring along the way was Jakobi Heady with 16 points and six boards. Kyler Vanderjagt came off the bench for 13 points and four rebounds, while Cayden Vasko had 11 points with seven boards and three assists.

Buffalo Bulls Betting Preview

Over on the Bulls’ side, they didn’t start out too badly. Since early December however, Buffalo has struggled mightily. The Bulls opened on a 5-4 stretch with wins over Old Dominion, Fredonia State, Morgan State, North Carolina A&T, and Pittsburgh-Bradford. The losses came versus Notre Dame, Bryant, Vermont, and Penn State otherwise. Since then it’s been a meager 1-9 run for the Bulls. They’ve got one win over Western Michigan among losses to St. Bonaventure, Georgia, Temple, Miami OH, Ohio, Kent State, Bowling Green, Akron, and Eastern Michigan. The result has been a 6-13 record through 19 games for the Bulls.

Matched up against Eastern Michigan in their Saturday outing, the Bulls hit a 45-42 advantage in the first half. Buffalo lost steam after that, however, ultimately losing 90-77 after a 48-32 run the rest of the way. Ryan Sabol led the team in the losing effort with 25 points, two rebounds, and two turnovers. Tyson Dunn was also in double-figures with 19 points and five boards.

Why the Buffalo Bulls will win

  • Buffalo has won 14 of its last 15 games against Central Michigan.
  • Central Michigan has lost each of its last five games at Alumni Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Buffalo has won the first half in each of its last three home games against Central Michigan.

Why the Central Michigan Chippewas will win

  • Buffalo has lost 15 of its last 16 night games against Conference opponents.
  • Central Michigan has won three of its last four games against the Mid-American Conference.
  • Central Michigan has won the first half in each of its last four games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Central Michigan vs Buffalo Prediction

I’m going to try Buffalo here, but I’m probably staying away in reality. The Bulls haven’t had much luck at all in the win column lately, and they’re coming off a rough performance versus Eastern Michigan. In that game, Buffalo posted 45.8 percent shooting with a 34-26 rebounding edge but also coughed up a whopping 20 turnovers for 19 Eastern Michigan points. The Bulls have put up 77 or more points in two of the last three games, but they’ve also allowed 180 combined points in their last pair.

As for the Chippewas, they’ve been scoring quite well themselves lately with 71 or more points in four straight games (a 3-1 run). Buffalo is going to have to minimize the mistakes in this one, but with a home push—and a little luck—I think they can get there. I’m not touching this one, though.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Buffalo Bulls +6.5
