Appalachian State Mountaineers Betting Preview
The Mountaineers had a rough stretch going in December, but they’ve since been able to right the ship and are playing solid basketball once again. App State opened on a 5-2 run with wins over St. Andrews, Queens U, William & Mary, Sam Houston, and Colgate. A rough 1-5 stretch came next with a lone win over Mid-Atlantic Christian. The losses otherwise were versus UNC Wilmington, High Point, Louisiana, North Texas, and Troy. Since then Appalachian State has been on a five-game win streak. Those victories have come courtesy of Texas State, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Old Dominion, and James Madison again for an 11-7 overall record through the first 18 games of the season for App State.
Matched up against James Madison in the road rematch on Saturday, the Mountaineers held a 20-20 tie at the break. App State got better from there on a 38-30 run and took the low-scoring win 58-50 in the end. Myles Tate set the scoring pace with 20 points, eight boards, and eight assists. Dior Connors was also in double-figures (the only other player on the team to reach that threshold), notching 18 points with two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Arkansas State Red Wolves Betting Preview
Over on the Arkansas State side, they came into the 2024-25 season on a pretty solid run and they’ve mostly stayed consistent since then. The Red Wolves beat Akron, Little Rock, Stephen F. Austin, Lane College, and Indiana State in a 5-1 opening (with a lone loss to Alabama), then fell to Rice and Hofstra in consecutive outings. Wins over Jackson State, Memphis, TX-Arlington, UAB, Coastal Carolina, and Old Dominion came next, then losses to James Madison and South Alabama. Since then it’s been three straight wins for the Red Wolves. Those have come courtesy of Troy, Louisiana, and Georgia State in succession for a 14-5 overall record.
Matched up against Georgia State over the weekend, the Red Wolves left the first half holding a dominant 44-19 edge. Arkansas State cruised from there on a 41-40 run and took the victory 85-59 in the end. Tops in scoring was Joseph Pinion with 14 points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Taryn Todd added 12 points with six boards and five assists, while Izaiyah Nelson had eight points, two steals, and a team-high 12 rebounds in 15 minutes of work on the floor.

Appalachian State vs Arkansas State Prediction
I’ll stick with Arkansas State, though this should be a pretty fun matchup regardless. The Red Wolves notched a pretty decent overall effort versus a struggling Georgia State team in their last game—though they didn’t shoot well (39.7 percent) from the field. The 51 rebounds and 22 team assists helped power the blowout victory, though. Arkansas State has now recorded 83 or more points in three straight games, posting wins in each outing.
As for App State, they didn’t shoot spectacularly well (41.7 percent) versus James Madison themselves in their last outing but did hold the Dukes to just 35.3 percent from the field on the other side. The Mountaineers will want to keep this total on the low side, so Arkansas State is going to have to get the offense established quickly.
