Alcorn State Braves Betting Preview
Needless to say, Alcorn State has had some massive difficulties this year. The Braves kicked off the season on a rough 0-14 losing streak, but to their credit, they’ve picked it up over the last couple of games. Alcorn State fell to Utah, Utah State, Xavier LA, Tulane, TCU, Washington, UC Riverside, South Alabama, Maryland, Wichita State, Oklahoma, Rice, UAB, and Jackson State in succession over their first 14 outings. Since then however, the Braves have picked up a couple of consecutive wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State, giving them a 2-14 overall record through 16 games so far this season.
In the Alabama State matchup on Monday, the Braves entered the second half with a 32-30 edge. Alcorn State kept the pace in the second half on a 35-35 run and took the eventual win 67-65 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Marcus Tankersley (six rebounds and two steals) and Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt (one rebound and two assists). Davian Williams came off the bench to provide 11 points with two boards and two assists in 27 minutes of work, while Djahi Binet also hit double-figures with 10 points and four rebounds in the start.
Texas Southern Tigers Betting Preview
Over on the Texas Southern side, they came out of the gate this year with a rough run over their first dozen games. The Tigers have similarly cleaned up their act lately, though. Texas Southern won just two of their first 12 games over Texas A&M-San Antonio and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The losses otherwise were versus Xavier, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Samford, New Mexico, Texas State, Sam Houston, Nevada, Boise State, and Abilene Christian during that time. Since then it’s been a 3-1 run for Texas Southern. The lone loss was to Southern, with wins otherwise versus College of Biblical Studies, Grambling, and MS Valley State for a 5-11 overall run through the first 17 outings of the season.
In the MS Valley State game on Monday, the Tigers entered the second half with a 28-27 deficit. Texas Southern woke up from there on a 55-25 run however, eventually pulling out the win in the end 82-53 for a blowout result. Kevin McClain led the team with 14 points, five steals, four assists, and two rebounds. Kenny Hunter added 13 points with nine boards, and Kehlin Farooq was the top bench scorer with 12 points, three boards, and three steals.

Alcorn State vs Texas Southern Prediction
I’ll lean toward Texas Southern. Probably not touching this one though, as there’s not a lot to get excited about here. That said, the Tigers are looking much better over their last quartet of outings, and they’re coming off a nice second half versus the Delta Devils. TX Southern ended up with 46.3 percent shooting and a 40-34 rebounding edge in that one. They’ve now scored 71 or more points in three of the last four games—winning all three. Alcorn State has hit 67 or more points in five of the last six themselves, but they’re also giving up a lot on the other side. Texas Southern should have plenty of room to score in this one.
