Seattle Redhawks Betting Preview

Seattle has had quite the choppy season so far, and it’s resulted in a record pretty far below the .500 mark. The Redhawks went just 5-10 in their first 15 games of the year, beating only UC San Diego, Northwest University, Portland State, Pacific OR, and Washington along the way. Wins over Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, and Southern Utah came next, then three straight losses to Texas Arlington, Utah Valley, and Grand Canyon. Following wins over Tarleton State and Texas Arlington, the Redhawks would lose to Abilene Christian and Tarleton State in the next pair, giving Seattle a 10-15 record overall through 25 games so far this year. 

In their latest matchup with Tarleton State, the Redhawks held a 32-32 tie by the break. Seattle fell behind on a 35-32 run from there, however, taking a tough road loss 67-64 in the end. Leading scorer John Christofilis posted 15 points with two rebounds off the bench in 24 minutes. Kobe Williamson paced the starters in the losing effort with 14 points, four rebounds, two steals, and one assist in 24 minutes. 

Utah Valley Wolverines Betting Preview

Over on the Utah Valley side, they started out on a shaky run but they’ve been great since mid-December. The Wolverines went just 5-6 to start the season, beating Western Colorado, UTEP, Murray State, West Georgia, and North Dakota in that time. In the next 14 games, Utah Valley lost just once (versus Grand Canyon). Otherwise, it was victories over Idaho State, Weber State, Bethesda University, Abilene Christian, Grand Canyon, Cal Baptist, Texas Arlington, Utah Tech, Cal Baptist, Seattle U, Texas Arlington, Tarleton State, and Southern Utah in succession. That gave Utah Valley an 18-7 record through their first 25 games of the year. 

Matched up against Utah Tech on Thursday, the Wolverines gave up a 42-33 halftime lead and needed overtime to power out the eventual win 79-77 in dramatic fashion. Tanner Toolson was the team’s high scorer with 24 points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal in 35 minutes. 

Why the Utah Valley Wolverines will win

• Utah Valley has won each of its last 10 games at UCCU Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Seattle has lost seven of its last eight road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Seattle vs Utah Valley Prediction 

I’m going to stick with Utah Valley in this one. On Thursday in the Utah Tech game, the Wolverines had some trouble on the road in putting away a struggling squad. Everything worked out in the end though, despite Utah Valley getting outmuscled on the boards 40-36 and posting 10 turnovers. The 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) from the line didn’t help either, but the Wolverines shot well on 49.2 percent from the field. Getting back home for a couple of games will be nice following six road matchups in the last nine outings. 

These teams last saw each other back on January 25 in a 70-66 road win for the Wolverines. Utah Valley shot well in that one (48.3 percent) and had a 39-29 rebounding edge on the way to the victory. The 12 turnovers for 16 Redhawks points were just about the only major blemish, so it’d be nice to see Utah Valley stay careful with the ball in the rematch. All things considered, the Wolverines should be set up well for a comfortable home victory on Saturday.
