Tarleton State Texans Betting Preview

Tarleton State had a good run going back in January, but aside from that it’s been a struggle in the record column this year. The Texans opened on a rough 3-10 stretch, taking wins over only Tabor, Hofstra and Dallas Christian during that time. A four-game win streak came next over Howard Payne, Florida A&M, Texas Arlington and Southern Utah, then a 3-3 run with wins over Cal Baptist, Utah Tech and Southern Utah mixed among losses to Utah Tech, Abilene Christian and Grand Canyon. Since then it’s been losses to Seattle U, Utah Valley and Grand Canyon ahead of a win versus Seattle. That gives Tarleton State an 11-16 record through 27 games. 

In the home rematch versus Seattle on Saturday, the Texans came into the locker room with a 32-32 tie. Tarleton State hit a 35-32 run the rest of the way during a 67-64 victory. Chris Mpaka led the team on his 20 points with nine rebounds and two assists with five blocks. Dantwan Grimes added 16 points with three rebounds and three assists off the bench as well, while Bubu Benjamin chipped in 11 points with three steals and three rebounds. 

Texas-Arlington Mavericks Betting Preview

Over on the Texas-Arlington side, they’ve got a couple of good runs in the books so far but overall it’s been a struggle for them as well. The Texans opened on a 7-7 stretch, taking losses to Louisiana Tech, USC, Missouri State, Murray State, Rhode Island, Arkansas State and Liberty during that time. The next four games were losses to Tarleton State, Utah Tech, Southern Utah and Utah Valley, then came wins over Seattle, Abilene Christian, Southern Utah and Utah Tech. It’s been a 1-3 run since then with a win over Cal Baptist among losses to Utah Valley, Seattle and Grand Canyon, giving the Mavs a 12-14 overall run so far this season. 

In the Grand Canyon matchup last weekend, the Mavericks opened the game with a 31-30 advantage. Texas-Arlington fell behind from there though, notching a 52-44 deficit for an 82-75 loss in the end. All five starters finished in double-figures during the defeat, including Darius Burford’s 14 points and two assists. Lance Ware doubled up with 11 points and 16 rebounds, while Raysean Seamster put up 12 points with six rebounds.

I’ll lean toward Texas-Arlington. The Mavericks need a good effort here following a tough loss to a talented Grand Canyon team, though. In that one, TX-Arlington shot well (49.1 percent) and rebounded well (a 31-30 advantage) but also gave up 16 turnovers for 17 Lopes points. The 50.9 percent shooting allowed on the other side didn’t help either. Texas-Arlington is mired in a choppy 1-3 run right now but they’ve been competitive over the last few games. 

These teams last saw each other back on January 4 in a 77-74 road loss for the Mavericks. Texas-Arlington had a whopping 23 turnovers for 20 Texans points in that one, so they’re going to need a significant upgrade in ball security during the home rematch.
