The Chinese women’s national basketball team really looked like they were going to pick up a win in their first Olympic game, but they blew the game in the 4th quarter, and they ended up losing in overtime. At the end of the first quarter, China was up 22-13, and they looked to be in great shape. In the 4th quarter though they were outscored 23-17 and in the overtime, they ended up giving 14 points, and they lost by one point. China as a team shot 50 percent from the field, and were 22-27 from the free throw line. They also did a good job of grabbing boards, finishing with 45 while Spain only managed to grab 30 of them. Li Yueru had a huge game in the opening game, putting up 31 points while grabbing 15 rebounds. She is going to need to have a big game again here, and as a team they are going to need to do a better job closing out the game.

Serbia got their Olympics journey out to a winning start, knocking off Puerto Rico in the first game. At the end of the first quarter, Serbia was up 23-15, but the rest of the game the defense was also strong. In the 4th quarter, though, Serbia’s offense only scored three points, and they ended up winning 58-55. They can’t score only three points again in a quarter and expect they are going to find success. Serbia as a team shot only 32.4 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from behind the three-point line. As a team, they grabbed 49 rebounds per game. Jovan Nogic was the top player, putting up 14 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Dragana Stanković had a strong game off the bench, putting up 15 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist.

The way the Serbia offense really struggled in the first game, I don’t trust them to be a lot better here. China shot 50 percent from the field in the first game, and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. Serbia’s defense isn’t going to be as good here, and they are going to really struggle to slow down Yueru.
