The Chicago Sky come into the 2025 season looking to take some steps forward after a disappointing end to the 2024 campaign. The Sky finished with a 13-27 record which put them in 10th place in the standings and thus missing out on the postseason for the first time since 2018. The Sky underwent some changes throughout the squad, first firing head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and bringing in Tyler Marsh for his first head coaching gig. The Sky also drafted Hailey Van Lith from TCU to bolster the backcourt that was left with a space after the Sky decided to part ways with leading scorer Chennedy Carter. Ariel Atkins was brought in by Chicago in a blockbuster trade to add some scoring depth and some perimeter offense as the Sky were the worst 3-point shooting team in the WNBA last year, but Atkins shot over 35% from three. Angel Reese is hoping for a clean bill of health after a knee injury cut her season short last year while Kia Nurse was brought in to help with depth and shooting and Courtney Vandersloot also returns after spending two seasons in New York. The pieces are there for Chicago to get back to prominence but in the end it’s up to their performance on the court and to show improvement under a new leader.

Indiana Fever Team Preview

The Indiana Fever come into the 2025 campaign hoping to take another step forward after a whirlwind of a 2024 season. The Fever started the year with a 3-10 record before winning 17 of their final 27 games to finish as the 6-seed in the WNBA playoffs, after finishing last in the East the prior three seasons and winning the draft lottery in back-to-back years. Caitlin clark was a revelation in her rookie season, winning a landslide rookie of the year award and earning all-star nomination while averaging 18 PPG and 8.5 APG last season. Aliyah Boston is also in the fold as well as Kelsey Mitchell as the mainstays in the Fever’s rotation. DeWanna Bonner came over after playing the last five seasons in Connecticut under new Fever head coach Stephanie White. The hire of White and firing of former HC Christie Sides was a shock to some given the improvement Indiana showed under Sides, but ultimately the job is now Sides’ to hold after a couple of successful seasons in Connecticut. The Fever have a loaded rotation that features sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard, Sydney Colson and Brianna Turner. White has had success almost everywhere she’s gone, can she harness the Fever’s talent to improve this team once again?

Chicago Sky vs. Indiana Fever Prediction

I’m backing the Fever here. I know the Fever are a popular and public team considering the fervor behind Caitlin Clark. However there’s no denying how bad of an offensive unit the Sky were last season and even with the improvements on paper, I need to see if the Sky can rectify those issues in game and fix them long term before I trust them against an offensive team like the Fever. Sure, the Fever have to get used to White’s coaching style even after the preseason, but this is still one of the more proficient offensive teams from last year and I think the Fever snag the win and cover at home here. Give me Indiana.
