Tommy Paul is at a career-high ranking of World No. 9. He is the defending champion of the Dallas Open. He won this tournament on debut 12 months ago beating Marcos Giron in the final.

Paul is coming off a highly productive Australian summer in which he made the semifinal of the Adelaide International (lost to eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime) and the quarterfinal of the Australian Open.

He’ll perhaps be disappointed not to have taken his chances in a four-set defeat to Alexander Zverev (served for the first and second sets).

The American has posted an 8-2 record in indoor hard courts in 2024. Dallas wasn’t the only place he lifted an ATP title, but also in Stockholm in what was a fabulous season on so many levels.

Let’s see if he will retain an ATP title for the first time in his career this week.

Jenson Brooksby Preview

Jenson Brooksby is currently ranked outside the top 1000 in the ATP rankings after a long injury hiatus. Brooksby also served an 18-month suspension for missing three out-of-competition doping tests.

His low-key return to action in January hasn’t yielded any wins. Brooksby lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Taylor Fritz in straight sets. He won just five games.

He competed at the Cleveland Challenger a week ago but was beaten by J.J. Wolf 6-2, 6-4. This will be the second time he is playing in Dallas. Brooksby finished runner-up in 2022 to Reilly Opelka.

The games handicap is what we are looking at here for profitable returns. Paul is a massive favorite at the -2000 money line. Brooksby is a former top 40 player who was on the up, but after two wrist surgeries and an 18-month suspension from the sport for missing three drug tests, he’s lost a significant amount of time to accelerate his development. It’s unfortunate, but he’s pretty much starting from scratch again. With just nine matches played since the start of 2023, we don’t see him having any sort of success here bar winning just a few games. Give me Paul on the games handicap.
