Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic will square off against British wild card Jacob Fearnley in the second round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, 2024. Here’s our Novak Djokovic vs Jacob Fearnley prediction.
Novak Djokovic vs Jacob Fearnley Preview
Novak Djokovic quelled any injury fears in his opening match with a convincing straight-sets win over Vit Kopriva in under two hours. The match took 23 games to decide. Djokovic was wearing a knee brace as an added protection following knee surgery at last month’s Roland Garros. In the victory against Kopriva, Djokovic hammered ten aces to two double faults. He landed 67% of first serves. Djokovic won an impressive 90% first serve points (35/39) and 68% second serve points (13/19). The Serb won 17 of 21 net points and converted six of 15 break points in the match. The second seed was imperious on serve, not facing a single break point during the entire match.
Next up for the seven-time champion is British wild card Jacob Fearnley, whose presence in the second round is merited. Competing on his Wimbledon main draw debut, Fearnley benefitted from a kind draw against Alejandro Moro Canas, who is not fond of grass. He came through a tight straight-sets win with the score 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 in two hours and 47 minutes. Fearnley tallied eight aces to four double faults and landed 63% fist serves. He won 85% first-serve points (57/67) and 60% second-serve points (24/40). Fearnley converted two of 10 break points in the match and planted a total of 47 winners.

Novak Djokovic vs Jacob Fearnley Prediction
Djokovic couldn’t have asked for a better draw in the first week, more so after recovering from knee surgery. A couple of cushy openers to reach the third round is what the doctor ordered. He was a bit of an unknown factor coming to the Championships as we were unsure how his knee would respond on a match court. But he didn’t experience any pain in the first round bar, except for a few moments when he was stretching his knee during the changeover.
Fearnley has nothing to lose and enters this match in scintillating form, having won the Notthamgam Challenger as a qualifier and securing a maiden Grand Slam main draw win on Tuesday. Still, this is a tall order for the World No. 277, but it will be an experience he’ll undoubtedly cherish for the rest of his life, sharing the Centre Court stage against a 24-time major champion.Â
