Joao Fonseca is returning to Wimbledon for the second time in his career. Fonseca made his debut last season and lost in the first round in qualifying to Moro Canas. The Brazilian teenage star will now enter the main draw for the first time at a career-high ranking of No. 57. Fonseca has enjoyed a breakthrough season on the ATP Tour, winning on his Grand Slam main draw debut at the Australian Open by beating Andrey Rublev and capturing his maiden ATP title in Buenos Aires. 

Fonseca impressed in the second Grand Slam of the season at the French Open, where he beat former Top 10 player Hubert Hurkacz in the opening round and would go on to make the third round, losing to Jack Draper. 

Since Roland Garros, Fonseca has played in two grass-court tournaments in preparation for Wimbledon. He lost in the first round in Halle, but earned his first win on the surface this season against Zizou Bergs in Eastbourne. Fonseca’s campaign in the ATP 250 event was ended by American No. 1 Taylor Fritz.

Jacob Fearnley is also on the tour’s rising stars. The 23-year-old Briton sits in 51st spot in the rankings, which is two spots below his career-high mark. Fearnley will compete at his home Grand Slam for the second time. Last year, he was granted a wild card and famously made the second round. He took a set from Novak Djokovic before losing in four sets.

Despite the defeat, Fearnley won plenty of fans and has since surged in the rankings. This season, he has compiled 25 wins and 16 losses. He has competed in three grass-court tournaments before Wimbledon. His best result was the quarterfinal finish at Queen’s. Fearnley has one grass-court title in his trophy cabinet, having won it at the Nottingham Challenger last season.
