Jannik Sinner vs. Alexander Zverev Preview

Jannik Sinner got his revenge win over Andrey Rublev in the Cincinnati Open quarterfinal. Sinner, who received a walkover in the previous round, played some gutsy tennis from a set down to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in almost two and a half hours.

In the victory, Sinner hammered ten aces to five doubles faults. He landed only 48% of first serves but won a healthy 84% of first-serve points (36/43). He won 43% of second-serve points (20/47) and converted six of 16 break points. Overall, Sinner tallied 32 winners to 28 unforced errors and lost his serve five times.

Alexander Zverev, meanwhile, defeated USA’s Ben Shelton 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 also in two and half hours. It was a serving feast between the two men who racked up 24 aces between them. Zverev tallied ten and eight double adults. He landed 61% first serves and won 81% first-serve points (44/54).

Zverev won 69% of second-serve points and converted only one of eight break points. Overall, Zverev compiled 22 winners to 21 unforced errors and only lost his serve once in the match. The German had to maintain his composure in the crucial moments in a match that was interrupted by rain at least twice in the third set.

Jannik Sinner vs. Alexander Zverev Head-To-Head

• Zverev leads Sinner 4-1 in their head-to-head.

• Their last meeting was at the 2023 US Open fourth round, where Zverev won in five sets.

Jannik Sinner vs. Alexander Zverev Prediction

Zverev will rise as high as No. 2 in the rankings with a title win. That’s highly important to him as he will be the number two seed at the US Open. He has a great record against Sinner, fending him off four times in five meetings. We haven’t seen the best of the Italian at the North American hard-court swing despite arriving earlier than his closest challengers. Could it still be the thigh injury that is holding him back? Maybe we’ll find out here in what should be a very intense match.
