Francisco Cerundolo will face Tomas Machac in the second round of the 2026 ATP Monte Carlo Masters. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8. Here’s our Francisco Cerundolo vs Tomas Machac prediction. This preview will also include Francisco Cerundolo vs Tomas Machac pick.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Tomas Machac Preview

Francisco Cerundolo kicked off his week at the Monte Carlo Masters with a straight-sets dismissal of former champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas entered the match unseeded and, despite possessing a fantastic record in this tournament, winning it multiple times, fell just short against a barrage of quality hitting from the Argentine.

Tsitsipas served for the opening at 5-3, but dropped his serve in the next two games and it was Cerundolo who eventually sealed the set 7-5. Cerundolo led 4-0 in the second set, but almost blew that lead when Tsitsipas recovered the double break back. However, the Greek failed to hold serve in a crucial ninth game. Cerundolo needed five match points on his serve to complete a 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Cerundolo hit 4 aces and 4 double faults in the victory. He landed 65% of first serves in play and won 58% of first serve points (29/50). Cerundolo won 52% of second serve points (14/27) and saved three of seven break points in the match. Cerundolo has never gone past the second round in each of his three previous appearances in Monte Carlo.

Tomas Machac is competing in Monte Carlo for the second time in his career and the Czech registered a hard-fought three-set win over World No. 49 Daniel Altmaier. The match took 26 games to decide. Machac prevailed 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in two hours and 19 minutes to make the second round again.

In the victory, Machac hit 4 aces and 1 double fault. He landed 68% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (33/48). Machac won 52% of second serve points (12/23) and saved one of four break points in the match. Machac stumbled in the second round stage in Monte Carlo when he competed last year, and overall, compiled a 2-5 record on clay.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Tomas Machac Head-To-Head

Machac won their only meeting in three sets at the 2020 Prague 3 Challenger.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Tomas Machac Prediction

While the obvious case in favor of Cerundolo is that he is the better clay courter here, he lost to Machac in their only meeting on clay six years ago. Machac has also made a final on clay at tour level after beating Novak Djokovic, so his record is not too shabby. That said, Cerundolo ticks all the boxes when it comes to clay-court pedigree and ball striking effectiveness and I see the Argentine making the most of his expertise on this surface to grind out another win.

Nur Said's Pick: Francisco Cerundolo in three sets
