Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff meet in the 2025 French Open final at Roland Garros. The match is scheduled for Saturday, June 7. Here’s our Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff prediction. This preview will also include an Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff pick.
Aryna Sabalenka Preview
Aryna Sabalenka reached her first French Open final with a gutsy three-set win over defending champion Iga Swiatek. Since the draw was made over two weeks ago, Sabalenka’s projected semifinal match against Swiatek was the match the world wanted to see. And it came to fruition.
The WTA’s in-form player against the queen of the surface and three-time defending champion. Swiatek showed her resilience, erasing Sabalenka’s 4-1, 40-30 lead in the first set, but losing it in a tie-break. The Pole would not relinquish her title without a fight and would win the second set 6-4. But Sabalenka was unstoppable in the decider, and she inflicted a rare bagel in Swiatek’s Grand Slam career. Sabalenka won 7-6, 4-6, 6-0. This will be her third successive Grand Slam final. Sabalenka won the 2024 US Open against Jessica Pegula but lost this year’s Australian Open to Madison Keys. This will be her fifth Grand Slam final appearance in singles. Sabalenka has won three majors in total, all on hard courts. She is the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to make three straight Slam finals.
Coco Gauff Preview
Coco Gauff ended the fairytale run of French wild card Lois Boisson in Thursday’s semifinals. Gauff dropped just three games in a rout that kept the home crowd silent throughout the evening under the roof. This will be her third straight final in this year’s clay swing. Gauff was a runner-up in Madrid (lost to Sabalenka) and Rome (lost to Paolini). By reaching the Paris showpiece, the 21-year-old American is the youngest player to reach all three finals of the three biggest clay events in the same season.
This will be her second French Open final. Gauff lost to Iga Swiatek in the 2022 final. She has lifted one Grand Slam in her career (singles), and that was almost two years ago when she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final. Gauff has won 17 of 20 matches in this year’s clay swing.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff Head-To-Head
Sabalenka and Gauff have played 10 times against each other. The head-to-head is tied at 5-5. On clay, it is also tied at 1-1. Sabalenka won their only 2025 meeting at the Madrid Open. Gauff won her solitary Grand Slam in singles against Sabalenka at the 2023 US Open.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff Prediction
A couple of interesting facts stand out in this top two showdown to decide the French Open women’s singles title. Sabalenka has lost two of five Grand Slam finals against American players, including Gauff at the US Open. The Belarusian is still the WTA’s most consistent performer in the high-profile tournaments and has now made three successive Slam finals, something that hasn’t been achieved in almost a decade.
Sabalenka will be determined to land the title after the disappointment of losing in the Australian Open final earlier this season. But what’s encouraging for Gauff is that Sabalenka can let the pressure get to her in these high-stakes matches, and she’s lost a fair few in the last 12 months. Gauff will be in scramble mode as Sabalenka will be expected to dictate with the serve+1 and her ferocious power. The top seed attacks better than anybody, hits stronger than any opponent, but can also be an unforced error machine if Gauff returns deep and with depth. Sabalenka might have to pull back that pace at times, and Gauff will have success winning the decisive points. I’m backing Gauff. As long as she can survive that opening punch and takes it into a physical territory, then I reckon she’s got a shot at winning this match.
