Alexander Zverev and Tallon Griekspoor meet in the second round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Friday, March 7, 2025. Here’s our Alexander Zverev vs Tallon Griekspoor prediction. This article will also include an Alexander Zverev vs Tallon Griekspoor pick.
Alexander Zverev Preview
Alexander Zverev is the top seed in Indian Wells and had a bye in the first round. As Jannik Sinner continues to serve his three-month suspension which he agreed with WADA over his failed drugs tests last season, Zverev has not bridged the gap on the number one spot.
The German’s Latin American swing was nothing short of a disaster, losing before the semis in both Buenos Aires and Rio, and reportedly getting hit by food poisoning in Acapulco where he fell to a second-round defeat against American teenager Learner Tien.
Those results didn’t help Zverev’s push for the number one ranking which was an achievable goal after the Australian Open (and it still is), but he’s given himself just a bit more work to do between now and the start of May when Sinner returns.
Zverev’s best results in Indian Wells include reaching two quarterfinals. He has compiled a 12-4 record this season. His highlight of this season was reaching the Australian Open final in January, losing to Sinner in straight sets.
Tallon Griekspoor Preview
Tallon Griekspoor is coming off a first-round win against Miomir Kecmanovic. The Dutchman prevailed 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 18 minutes. In the victory, Griekspor planted 47 winners and 44 unforced errors. That tally included 12 aces and six double faults.
Griekspoor landed 60% of first serves and won 78% of first serve points (46/59). He won 57% of second serve points (23/40) and saved all three break points on his serve.
The 28-year-old compiled 33% of return points (31/93) and converted three of five break points in the match. This was his eighth win of the season and will look to reach the third round in Indian Wells for the third time in his career.
Alexander Zverev vs Tallon Griekspoor Head-To-Head
• Zverev and Griekspoor have played seven times on Tour.
• Zverev leads the head-to-head 6-1, winning the corresponding meeting at this tournament 12 months ago in straight sets.
Alexander Zverev vs Tallon Griekspoor Prediction
Zverev looked completely lost in Latin America. Looking back, I think that was one of the worst scheduling decisions of his career. He might have amassed more ranking points playing in the Middle East or Europe. Now, the quest for the No. 1 ranking could be out of reach unless he goes on an insane run of form (we’re talking three Masters titles minimum) before May.
Since the Australian Open, Zverev’s game has been so fragile and flat, when he starts to doubt it, he struggles to play well. Could it be the disappointment of losing another Grand Slam final? Maybe. Or is he running out of chances to become No. 1 and is now feeling the pressure? Possibly. Or it could be a motivation issue. That said, this match could have an upset written all over it. Confidence-wise, Griekspoor is on top of the world, coming off a scintillating semifinal run in Dubai (defeating defending champion Humbert and Daniil Medvedev from match points down). I like the Dutchman to pile on the misery here.
