Daniil Medvedev is the number three seed in Halle. This is his fifth appearance at the ATP 500 event. Medvedev started the tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Daniel Altmaier. In the second round, Medvedev overcame big-serving Quentin Halys 6-2, 7-5. In the quarterfinal, the Russian toppled Alex Michelsen of the USA 6-4, 6-3 in 86 minutes. Medvedev hammered seven aces and five double faults. He won 74% of first serve points (32/43) and did not face a breakpoint in the match.

Medvedev improves his grass-court record this season to 4-1. He suffrerd a surprise quarterfinal dfet to Reilly Opelka in Den Bosch at the ATP 250 event just a week ago. He has averaged two losses on the surface in each of the last five years. In total, Medvedev has lost 12 matches this season, which is the same number as Zverev.

We saw how vulnerable Medvedev becomes when he comes up against a big server with searing pace, having lost to Opelka last week. I reckon the same problems will recur in this one.
