Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton meet in the final of the 2025 ATP BMW Open Munich on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Here’s our Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton prediction. This preview will also include an Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton pick.
Alexander Zverev Preview
Alexander Zverev reached his third career final at the BMW Open in Munich and first there since 2018. To get there, Zverev won his opening match against Alexandre Muller 6-4, 6-1. In the second round, Zverev won the all-German clash against Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-2. In the quarterfinal, he was on the brink of defeat, but fought back to defeat Tallon Griekspoor 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
In the semifinal, Zverev was at his clinical best as he beat Fabian Marozsan 7-6, 6-3, hitting only 13 unforced errors. Zverev has won two titles in Munich and will attempt to draw level with compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber who owns three titles. Zverev’s last ATP win was at the Paris Masters towards the end of last season. He lost his only final of this year at the Australian Open.
Ben Shelton Preview
Ben Shelton made a bit of personal history on Saturday as he secured a remarkable semifinal win over fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo. Shelton defeated the Argentine 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 to become the first American man in over 20 years to reach an ATP final above 250 on clay courts.
Earlier in the tournament, Shelton beat Borna Gojo 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 and Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6, 6-3 to reach the quarters. There, he outplayed Luciano Darderi to win 6-4, 6-3. This will be Shelton’s first final of the season. His last ATP title was on clay, in Houston, Texas, last April. Shelton has compiled a 14-7 record in 2025 and improved to 4-1 on clay.
Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton Head-To-Head
Zverev and Shelton have met once on the ATP Tour. Zverev won that match at the 2024 Cincinnati Open in three sets.
Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton Prediction
Maybe Zverev will look back on this tournament as the moment that kickstarted a purple patch as he yearns to lift a Major title this season. He can at least break a Munich record by winning his third title here, and I can’t see him squandering this opportunity. His forehand is alive, and his serve has been such a formidable and reliable shot in digging him out of trouble. His confidence is also quietly humming after a terrible spell on the spring hard courts, and he’ll fancy his chances to lift the trophy. Shelton has taken the long and treacherous route to reach his first European clay-court final, and he’s likely to be beaten by the player who is more savvy and proficient than him on Sunday.
