The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks meet Sunday in NFL action at Lumen Field. Here’s a San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks Prediction. This article will include a San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks Pick.
The San Francisco 49ers won six games last season, ending a three-year playoff streak. Kyle Shanahan enters his ninth season as head coach, and he’s made the Super Bowl twice in the last six years.
Quarterback Brock Purdy got the bag this offseason, so it’s fair to say this is his offense. Full seasons of Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk would go a long way, as they were both banged up last year, and it played a role in the 49ers struggles to win games. George Kittle remains one of the best tight ends in football, while receivers Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall are capable of taking steps forward. Still, a healthy McCaffrey changes the entire outlook of this offense.
The 49ers defense is led by a respected defensive mind in Robert Saleh, so this side of the ball is in good hands. However, there’s not a lot of depth up front once you get past Nick Bosa, putting pressure on rookie Mykel Williams to contribute right away. The secondary also took a hit in free agency. Of course, the linebacker position is still led by Fred Warner, possibly the best at his position. The 49ers defense has set the tone during these Super Bowl runs, but there’s depth concerns heading into 2025.
The Seattle Seahawks have missed the playoffs in three of the last four seasons and enter year two under coach Mike Macdonald. The Seahawks haven’t missed the postseason in three straight years since the 2002 season.
Offensively, the Seahawks will look a lot different with no Geno Smith, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Sam Darnold is in at quarterback, while Cooper Kupp comes over from the Rams. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is coming off a Pro Bowl season, and there’s a lot of pressure on running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet under coach Kubiak. It’s going to be interesting to see how quickly all of these moving parts come together, as this is a lot of roster turnover.
Defensively, the Seahawks made a splash by bringing in defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. This was already a top-10 defense with Devon Witherspoon and Leonard Williams leading the way, but adding a four-time Pro Bowler and somebody with 61.5 career sacks takes things to another level. With how good this unit was a year ago, the returning production and the major addition, the Seahawks could be rolling out the Legion of Boom Part 2.
