The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Houston Astros will meet on Thursday night in the final game of a three‑game interleague series at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

The Pittsburgh Pirates enter Thursday’s contest with a 33–29 overall record (2nd in the National League Central) and a 15–14 mark on the road. The Pirates offense has been competitive to this point in the season. Pittsburgh has compiled 320 runs scored (3rd in MLB), 87 doubles, 87 home runs and a .257 team batting average which ranks third in Major League Baseball.

The Pittsburgh Pirates arrive at today’s game in good form. More specifically, Pittsburgh has won four of the team’s last five games, including a 9–3 victory over the Minnesota Twins last week.

Pittsburgh will turn to right hander Jared Jones in this contest. In one start made this season, Jones has compiled an abysmal 10.38 ERA, a 2.08 WHIP and 6 strikeouts, while allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 4.1 innings pitched. Jones will look to rebound from his  early season struggles in tomorrow’s matchup with the Houston Astros.

The Pittsburgh Pirates lineup features outfielder Oneil Cruz and third baseman Nick Gonzales. Cruz has tallied a .258 batting average, 14 home runs (15th in MLB), 44 RBIs (5th in MLB), 23 walks, 19 stolen bases (3rd in MLB) and an .860 OPS. Nick Gonzales has compiled a rather impressive .312 batting average (6th in MLB), 15 walks, 9 doubles. 3 stolen bases and a .738 OPS.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Houston Astros enter Thursday night’s matchup with a 28–35 overall record (4th in the American League West) and a 14–17 mark at home. Houston arrives at this contest in poor form. The Astros have lost two of the team’s last three games played this season, including a 2–0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers four days ago.

Houston will start right hander Kai‑Wei Teng in today’s game. In five starts made this season, Teng has compiled an 0–0 record, a 2.57 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 43 strikeouts, while allowing 27 hits and 19 walks in 42 innings pitched.

Shifting our focus to the Houston offense, the Astros lineup features outfielder Yordan Alvarez and first baseman Christian Walker. Yordan Alvarez has compiled a .305 batting average (12th in MLB), 21 home runs and a robust 1.065 OPS which ranks fourth in Major League Baseball. Christian Walker has tallied a .247 batting average, 16 home runs (8th in MLB), 45 RBIs and an .817 OPS.

Why the Pittsburgh Pirates will win.

• Offensive upside. Oneil Cruz and Nick Gonzales continue to anchor the Pittsburgh lineup.

• Current form. The Pittsburgh Pirates have won four of the team’s last five games played in 2026.

Why the Houston Astros will win.

• Home field advantage. The Astros have compiled a 14–17 record at Minute Maid Park this season. Houston will look to improve on that record later today.

• Offensive firepower. Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker lead the Houston Astros offense.

• Quality starting pitching. In five starts made this season, Kai-Wei Teng has compiled a 2.57 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 43 strikeouts, while allowing 27 hits and 19 walks in 42 innings pitched.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Houston Astros Prediction

In my opinion, this matchup favors the Houston Astros. Houston starting pitcher Kai-Wei Teng has pitched rather well recently, compiling a 2.57 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in five starts made this season, while Pittsburgh hurler Jared Jones struggled in his first start of the season, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in Pittsburgh’s 6-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins last month. With that said, I am backing the Houston Astros on the moneyline in this game.
