The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies will meet on Friday night in the opening game of a three‑game National League series at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

The Pittsburgh Pirates enter Friday’s contest with a 38–37 overall record (4th in the National League Central) and an 18–18 mark on the road. The Pirates offense has been competitive to this point in the season. Through 75 games played in 2026, Pittsburgh has compiled 379 runs scored (5th in MLB), 111 doubles, 91 home runs and a .255 team batting average which ranks third in Major League Baseball.

The Pirates arrive at tomorrow’s game in good form. More specifically, Pittsburgh has won three of the team’s last five games played this season, including a thrilling 6–5 victory over the Athletics two days ago.

Pittsburgh will turn to right hander Bubba Chandler in this contest. In thirteen starts made this season, Chandler has compiled a 2–7 win‑loss record, a 4.76 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP and 68 strikeouts, while allowing 53 hits and 41 walks in 68 innings pitched. Chandler pitched well in his last outing, amassing 6 strikeouts, while scattering just 3 hits and 1 walk across 5.2 innings pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins.

The Pittsburgh Pirates lineup features outfielders Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds. Cruz has tallied a .264 batting average, 14 home runs, 44 RBIs (20th in MLB), 30 walks, 21 stolen bases and an .822 OPS. Bryan Reynolds has compiled a robust .283 batting average, 49 walks, 10 home runs, 17 doubles and an .802 OPS.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

The Colorado Rockies enter Friday night’s matchup with a 28–47 overall record (5th in the National League West) and a 14–20 mark at home. Colorado arrives at this contest in below average form. The Rockies have lost five of the team’s last seven games played this season, including a 9–3 loss to the Chicago Cubs earlier this month.

Colorado will start left hander Kyle Freeland in Friday’s game. In twelve starts made this season, Freeland has compiled a 1–7 record, an abysmal 7.98 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP and 49 strikeouts, while allowing 84 hits and 16 walks in 58.2 innings pitched. Freeland will look to rebound from his recent poor performance on the mound in tomorrow’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Shifting our focus to the Colorado offense, the Rockies lineup features first baseman TJ Rumfield and outfielder Troy Johnston. TJ Rumfield enters this contest with a .275 batting average, 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and an .816 OPS. Troy Johnston has tallied a rather impressive .312 batting average (7th in MLB), 21 doubles, 34 RBIs and an .813 OPS.

Why the Pittsburgh Pirates will win.

• Starting pitching upside. Bubba Chandler has shown potential despite inconsistent results.

• Offensive production. Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds continue to anchor the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup.

• Recent momentum. Pittsburgh has won three of the team’s last five games entering tomorrow’s contest.

Why the Colorado Rockies will win.

• Starting pitching advantage. Kyle Freeland has compiled a 1.70 WHIP and 49 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched.

• Home field edge. Colorado has played competitive baseball at Coors Field this season.

• Offensive stability. TJ Rumfield and Troy Johnston provide a strong core to the Rockies lineup.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction

In my view, this matchup favors the Pittsburgh Pirates. Why? Pittsburgh starting pitcher Bubba Chandler has pitched at a high level recently, allowing two earned runs or less in his last two outings. Conversely, Colorado hurler Kyle Freeland has been far more inconsistent posting a dreadful 7.98 ERA in twelve starts made this season. Additionally, the Pirates arrive at this contest in good form, winning three of the team’s last five games. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Pittsburgh Pirates in this game.
