The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays will meet Saturday night in an American League East matchup at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

The New York Yankees enter Saturday night’s contest with a 93-68 overall record (2nd in the American League East) and a 47-34 mark on the road. The Yankees offense has been productive this season. New York has compiled 739 runs scored (8th in MLB), 224 doubles, a .235 team batting average and 223 home runs which ranks second in Major League Baseball.

The Yankees arrive at this playoff contest in good form, winning the team’s last two games, including a 9-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox earlier this week.

The Yankees will turn to right hander Gerrit Cole in this game. In 22 starts made in 2026, Cole has compiled a 10-9 win-loss record, a 3.61 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 131 strikeouts in 127 innings pitched. Gerrit Cole pitched well in his most recent outing, allowing two earned runs while scattering three hits and striking out eight batters in the New York Yankees dominant 9-2 victory over the Rays. Cole will look to continue his recent success in Saturday night’s playoff matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Shifting our focus to the New York offense, the Yankees lineup features Ben Rice and Trent Grisham. Ben Rice enters this contest with a .264 batting average, 41 home runs (6th in MLB), 97 RBIs and an .897 OPS. Grisham has compiled 18 home runs, 59 RBIs and a .703 OPS.

Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

The Tampa Bay Rays enter Saturday night’s contest with a 98-64 win-loss record (1st in the American League East) a rather impressive 55-26 record at home. The Rays arrive at this contest in good form, winning two of the team’s last three games played this season, including a 12-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies last month.

The Rays will start right hander Drew Rasmussen in this contest. In 30 starts made this season, Rasmussen has compiled a 16-5 win-loss record, a 2.67 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and 174 strikeouts in 172 innings pitched. Rasmussen has pitched exceptionally well recently, allowing one earned run or fewer in four of his last five starts made in 2026.

The Tampa Bay Rays lineup features talented outfielder Chandler Simpson. Simpson has amassed a robust .309 batting average (3rd in MLB), 16 doubles, 26 walks, 36 RBIs, 35 stolen bases and a .697 OPS.

Why the New York Yankees will win.

• Starting pitching. In 22 starts made in 2026, Gerrit Cole has compiled a 10-9 win-loss record, a 3.61 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 131 strikeouts in 127 innings pitched.

• Offensive firepower. The Yankees have hit 223 home runs this season which ranks second in Major League Baseball.

• Ability to win on the road. The New York Yankees have played competitive baseball on the road, amassing a 47-34 mark away from home.

Why the Tampa Bay Rays will win.

• Home field advantage. The Tampa Bay Rays have compiled a 55-26 record at Tropicana Field.

• Starting pitching. In 30 starts made this season, Drew Rasmussen has compiled a 16-5 win-loss record, a 2.67 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and 174 strikeouts in 172 innings pitched.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Prediction

In my view, the way to go in this matchup is the total rather than a side. Why? New York starting pitcher Gerrit Cole has pitched exceptionally well this season, compiling a 10-9 win-loss record, a 3.61 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 131 strikeouts in 127 innings pitched. Similarly, Tampa Bay hurler Drew Rasmussen arrives at this contest in above average form, allowing one earned run or fewer in four of his last five starts made in 2026. With that said, I envision a contest where quality pitching from both teams limits overall run production. I am backing under 7.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Under 7.5
