The Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers will meet Tuesday night in the opening game of an American League series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

Boston Red Sox Betting Preview

The Boston Red Sox enter Saturday night’s matchup with an 82–68 overall record (3rd in the American League East) and a 44–31 mark on the road. Boston has played competitive baseball recently, winning the team’s last two games, including a 5–1 victory over the Kansas City Royals last week.

The Red Sox will turn to left hander Patrick Sandoval in this game. In 11 starts made in 2026, Sandoval has compiled a 1-5 win-loss record, a 4.58 ERA, a 1.76 WHIP and 57 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched. Patrick Sandoval arrives at this contest in subpar form, allowing seven earned runs across his last two starts. Most recently, Sandoval surrendered four earned runs, ten hits and two walks across six innings pitched in the Los Angeles Angels 6-1win over the Boston Red Sox six days ago.

Shifting our focus to the Boston offense, the Red Sox lineup features outfielders Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran. Wilyer Abreu has tallied 24 home runs, 74 RBIs, 36 doubles and an .802 OPS. Duran has amassed 20 home runs, 69 RBIs, 15 doubles, 37 walks and a .623 OPS.

Texas Rangers Betting Preview

The Texas Rangers enter Tuesday’s matchup with a 74-76 overall record (2nd in the American League West) and a 40-32 mark at home. The Rangers offense has been rather inconsistent this season. Texas has compiled 624 runs scored (25th in MLB), 217 doubles, 173 home runs and a .243 team batting average which ranks 15th in Major League Baseball.

The Rangers arrive at this contest in good form. Texas has won two consecutive games, including a 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks two days ago.

The Rangers will start left hander Cody Bradford in this contest. In seven starts made in 2026, Bradford has compiled an 0-5 record, a 4.72 ERA, a 1.57 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 34.1 innings pitched. Cody Bradford has struggled recently, allowing eight earned runs in his last two starts made this season.

The Texas Rangers lineup features first baseman Jake Burger. Burger has compiled a team leading 26 home runs, a .235 batting average, 83 RBIs (22nd in MLB), 21 doubles and a .730 OPS.

• Offensive potential. First baseman Jake Burger has been a key contributor for the Texas Rangers lineup.
• Motivation. The Texas Rangers have lost three of the team’s last five games.

Boston Red Sox vs. Texas Rangers Prediction

In my opinion, the way to go in this matchup is the total rather than a side. Why? Boston starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval arrives at this contest in subpar form, allowing seven earned runs across his last two starts made in 2026. Similarly, Texas hurler Cody Bradford has been inconsistent this season, amassing a dreadful 0-5 win-loss record, a 4.72 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP in 34.1 innings pitched. I envision a contest where both offenses find success. With that said, I am backing the over 8.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Over 8.5
