The Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres meet Sunday in MLB action from Petco Park. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Washington Nationals will send out MacKenzie Gore for the start here and Gore is 6-6 with a 3.49 ERA and 98 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gore is 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA and 14 strikeouts against San Diego. Adam Mazur will get the start for the Padres and is 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Mazur’s first career start against the Nationals.
Washington Nationals Recap
The Washington Nationals come into this one looking to rebound after a 7-6 loss to the Padres in Monday’s series opener. It wasn’t the best start to the series for the Nationals who are looking to string together series wins after knocking off the Rockies over this past weekend.
Nationals Still Playing Well Despite Loss
CJ Abrams leads the Nationals with 79 hits along with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs to go along with 19 doubles, 5 triples and 13 stolen bases. Luis Garcia Jr. has 12 doubles with 33 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Jacob Young has a team-high 18 stolen bases while Lane Thomas has 17 stolen bases and Jesse Winker has 12 stolen bases this season. Joey Meneses also has a team-high 40 RBIs as well this season.
Why the Washington Nationals will win
- The Nationals have won each of their last six games against NL West opponents following a road loss.
- The Padres have lost six of their last seven games following an extra innings win.
- The Nationals have covered the run line each of their last six games at Petco Park against teams that held a winning record.
- The Padres have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last eight home games against NL East opponents.
San Diego Padres Recap
The San Diego Padres come into this one looking to build on their series-opening win over the Nationals from Monday’s matchup. The win was a nice carry-over from their series win over the Milwaukee Brewers from this past weekend.
Padres Solid At The Plate
Jurickson Profar has 88 hits along with a .317 batting average and 15 doubles with 10 homers and 50 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has 49 RBIs while Fernando Tatis Jr. has belted a team-high 14 home runs, 86 hits, 71 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases as well this season, but is out of the lineup because of injury. Manny Machado has 7 home runs and 38 RBIs but also has 65 strikeouts while Ha-Seong Kim has 60 hits with 3 triples, 9 doubles, 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and a team-high 15 stolen bases.
Why the San Diego Padres will win
- The Padres have won seven of their last eight games at Petco Park.
- The Nationals have lost six of their last seven night games against NL West opponents.
- The Nationals have failed to cover the run line in four of their last five games against National League opponents after going to extra innings.
- The Padres have covered the run line in each of their last four night games against National League opponents following a home win.
Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres Prediction
I’m on the Nationals here. Originally I thought Darvish was getting the start for the Padres, but with it now being Mazur, the Nationals have a solid chance here as Mazur has huge control issues and the Nationals have not struck out much against righties in the last two weeks. MacKenzie Gore’s been solid on the road this season and I think the value in this matchup lies with the Nationals. Give me Washington.
Chris’s Pick Washington +110
