The Northwestern Wildcats and the Michigan State Spartans will meet Saturday afternoon in a Big Ten Conference matchup at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

Northwestern Wildcats Betting Preview

The Northwestern Wildcats enter Saturday’s matchup with a 4-1 overall win-loss record (4-0 record at home, 0-1 mark on the road), including victories over South Dakota State, Colorado, Penn State and the Ball State Cardinals.

The Northwestern offense has been productive through five games played in 2026. The Wildcats are averaging 35.4 points per game (23rd in FBS) while producing 437.4 total yards per contest. Northwestern has accumulated 234.4 passing yards and 203 rushing yards per game.

Defensively, Northwestern has allowed just 16.2 points per game while surrendering 380.6 total yards per contest, including 220.5 passing yards and 147.3 rushing yards which currently ranks 61st in the nation.

Through five games played in 2026, quarterback Aidan Chiles has compiled 1,172 passing yards and nine passing touchdowns without throwing an interception. Junior running back Caleb Komolafe has amassed 334 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Talented wide receiver Griffin Wilde has been a major contributor in the receiving department, accumulating 24 receptions,425 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.

Michigan State Spartans Betting Preview

The Michigan State Spartans enter Saturday’s contest with a 2-4 record (2-2 record at home, 0-2 mark on the road) after posting victories over Toledo and Eastern Michigan while dropping conference games to Nebraska, Illinois and the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Michigan State offense has struggled to this point in the 2026 season. Let’s dive into the Spartans relevant team data to better shed light on my previous statement. Michigan State is averaging 21.3 points per game while amassing 311.7 total yards per contest, including 187.5 passing yards and 124.2 rushing yards per game.

Turning our attention to the defensive side of the football, Michigan State has allowed 25.7 points per game through six contests this season. The Spartans have been respectable defensively, but offensive inconsistency has repeatedly placed the team’s defense in difficult situations.

Quarterback Alessio Milivojevic has compiled 1,047 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and three interceptions. Running back Cam Edwards has amassed 304 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, while senior wide receiver Rodney Bullard Jr. has been Michigan State’s top receiving threat, accumulating 19 receptions, 242 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

Why the Northwestern Wildcats will win.

• Offensive firepower. The Northwestern Wildcats are averaging 35.4 points per game which ranks 23rd in the country.

• Quarterback play. Aidan Chiles has thrown for 1,172 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.

• Recent form. The Wildcats have won three of their last four games, including victories over Penn State and Ball State by a combined score of 79-27.

Why the Michigan State Spartans will win.

• Home field advantage. The Michigan State Spartans will play this game at Spartan Stadium.

• Quarterback play. Sophomore quarterback Alessio Milivojevic has compiled 1,047 passing yards and five passing touchdowns.

• Enhanced motivation. The Michigan State Spartans have lost the team’s last four games.

Northwestern Wildcats vs. Michigan State Spartans Prediction

In my opinion, this matchup favors the Northwestern Wildcats. Why? Quite simply, of the two teams in this contest, Northwestern has clearly been the better overall football team on both sides of the football, averaging 35.4 points per game while allowing only 16.2 points per contest. Additionally, Aidan Chiles has been outstanding, throwing nine touchdown passes without an interception while leading one of the Big Ten’s most efficient offenses.

Conversely, Michigan State arrives at this contest on the heels of a four-game losing streak, including an embarrassing loss 31-3 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers earlier this month. With that said, Northwestern is the side to be on in this one. In conclusion, I am backing the Northwestern Wildcats to cover the 6.5 points in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Northwestern Wildcats -6.5
