Xavier Musketeers Betting Preview
The Musketeers opened up the year on a spotty 3-3 run. The losses in that time were versus Santa Clara, Iowa and Georgia. After beating West Virginia, Texas A&M-CC, St. Francis, Cincinnati and Missouri State in succession, Xavier has since hit a 1-3 run with losses to Creighton, UConn and DePaul. That gives the Musketeers a 9-6 overall run across 15 games.
In the DePaul game on Saturday, the Musketeers were down by three points at halftime. Xavier didn’t get any closer than that on a 46-40 run the rest of the way and lost 86-77 in the end. Leading the team in scoring during the losing effort was Tre Carroll with 17 points and seven boards. Filip Borovicanin managed to double up with 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists as well.
Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview
Over on the Marquette side, they posted a spotty run of their own out of the gate this year, going 5-4 through nine with losses to Indiana, Maryland, Dayton and Oklahoma. Since then the Eagles have lost six straight versus Wisconsin, Purdue, Georgetown, Creighton, Seton Hall and UConn. Over 15 games so far this year that gives Marquette a 5-10 overall record.
In the UConn game on Sunday the Eagles entered the second half sporting an eight-point deficit. Marquette was outscored 36-28 the rest of the way and limped to the defeat 73-57 by game’s end. Nigel James was tops on 15 points with three assists and Chase Ross also finished in double-digits with 11 points. Ben Gold added 11 rebounds and four points in the defeat.

Xavier vs Marquette Prediction
I’ll stick with Xavier. The Musketeers could use a good performance after falling versus DePaul at Wintrust Arena in their last outing, and this is a decent spot to get it. Xavier shot just 40.6 percent in that last game, with a 33-31 rebounding deficit and 50 percent shooting allowed on defense. Xavier was pretty good with turnovers (eight) and in the paint (a 30-28 edge), though. The Musketeers have been giving up a truckload of points lately: 77 or more in four straight games, going just 1-3 in that time.
As for Marquette, they shot a dismal 32.3 percent from the field and 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from outside in their loss to a great UConn team. The Eagles were outmuscled on the boards 44-34 and in the paint 40-30 along the way. Marquette has now lost six straight while finishing below 70 points in four of their last five.
