Winthrop Eagles Betting Preview
Winthrop had a nice run going back in November/December but aside from that they’ve been quite the shaky team this season. The Eagles opened on a 4-3 stretch with wins over Piedmont, Little Rock, William & Mary, and North Carolina Central among losses to Virginia Tech, Georgia Southern, and Louisville. Following a winning streak over Long Island U, Averett, Queens U, Coastal Carolina, and Bob Jones, Winthrop put up a 4-5 run. Those wins were over Mercer, USC Upstate, Longwood, and Charleston Southern. Otherwise, it was losses to Florida State, Indiana, Radford, Gardner Webb, and UNC Asheville for a 13-8 overall record so far.
In the UNC Asheville matchup last weekend, the Eagles came out of halftime with a 41-40 deficit. Winthrop never ended up getting any closer on a 52-44 second-half run for a 93-84 loss in the end. Leading the team’s starters in the losing effort was Kelton Talford with 21 points, eight boards, three assists, and two steals. Bryce Baker impressed off the bench with his 24 points and three rebounds in 31 minutes, and KJ Doucet chipped in 12 points in 13 minutes.
High Point Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the High Point side, they’ve been quite the consistent team so far this season. The Panthers have yet to lose consecutive games. High Point went 8-2 over their first 10 outings, losing to only Missouri State and UNC Greensboro with wins over Coppin State, Jackson State, North Carolina Central, UAB, American U, Old Dominion, Hampton, and Pfeiffer otherwise. After wins over North Texas, App State, Carolina U, and Southern Illinois, High Point lost to Norfolk State and UNC Asheville in the next trio of outings. Since then it’s been a 4-1 stretch with a lone loss to Longwood in the middle of wins over Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, and South Carolina Upstate for a 17-5 overall record this season.
Matched up against USC Upstate in their Wednesday game, the Panthers came out of the locker room holding a 48-37 edge. High Point was outscored 40-38 from there but still won fairly easily 86-77 in the end. D’Maurian Williams put up 22 points with three rebounds in the victory, and Kezza Giffa chipped in with 18 points, two rebounds, and two assists.

Winthrop vs High Point Prediction
I’m going to stay with High Point I suppose. The Panthers didn’t have too many issues versus a struggling USC Upstate team in their last outing, despite giving up 52.5 percent shooting from the field. High Point held a 34-24 rebounding edge in that one and had 16 points off 10 Spartans turnovers. The win continues a nice scoring trend for High Point. They’ve hit 74 or more points in 10 straight games—a 7-3 run.
As for Winthrop, they were quite permissive to a pretty decent UNC Asheville team in their last outing, giving up 51.6 percent shooting with a 32-30 rebounding deficit. The Eagles posted 17 turnovers for 19 Bulldogs points as well, which didn’t help. Winthrop has scored 83 or more points in four straight (a 2-2 run) themselves, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see a high total here.
