West Georgia Wolves Betting Preview
The Wolves kicked off their season on a massive losing streak, and things haven’t gotten a whole lot better since then. West Georgia fell versus Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Tennessee Tech, South Florida, Troy, Georgia Southern, Utah Valley, North Dakota State, Samford, and Mercer in their first nine outings. The next three featured wins over Tennessee Tech and Brewton-Parker around a loss to Charlotte. Since then it’s been a 2-6 run with wins over only Austin Peay and North Florida. Otherwise, the Bears have fallen to FGCU, Stetson, Lipscomb, FGCU again, Stetson, and Jacksonville for a rough 4-17 overall record so far.
In the North Florida matchup on Saturday, the Wolves held a somewhat surprising 43-27 advantage by the break. West Georgia hit a 49-45 run the rest of the way, giving the team a 92-72 victory in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Kolten Griffin with 24 points, five boards, six assists, and three steals. Shelton Williams-Dryden added 17 points with eight rebounds, and Kyric Davis had 16 points with five rebounds and five assists in the win.
Central Arkansas Bears Betting Preview
Over on the Central Arkansas side, they haven’t had a whole lot of luck in the win column this year either. The Bears lost to BYU, Utah, Western Illinois, SEMO, Georgia Tech, Little Rock, AR-Pine Bluff, and Arkansas in their first 10 games, beating only Randall U and UNC Asheville along the way. A 3-2 stretch came next with wins over the Citadel, Southwestern Christian, and Bellarmine alongside losses to Oklahoma and Eastern Kentucky. Since then it’s been a string of six straight losses versus Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida, Jacksonville, Austin Peay, and Lipscomb in succession for a 5-16 overall record through 21 games this year so far.
Matched up against Lipscomb over the weekend, the Bears hit a 33-28 deficit in the first half. Central Arkansas didn’t end up getting any closer with a 35-27 second-half deficit and lost 68-55 in the end. Leading the way in the losing effort was Elias Cato with 17 points and five rebounds. Cole McCormick added 13 points with three rebounds, and Brayden Fagbemi posted 12 points with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 37 minutes of work.
Why the Central Arkansas Bears will win
- West Georgia has lost four of its last five games against Conference opponents.
- West Georgia has lost the first half in three of its last four games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
Why the West Georgia Wolves will win
- Central Arkansas has lost each of its last 10 night games against Conference opponents.
West Georgia vs Central Arkansas Prediction
I’ll lean toward Central Arkansas, but I’m probably not touching this one. The Bears are coming off another limp offensive effort versus Lipscomb, shooting just 39.6 percent from the field with 6-of-14 (42.9 percent) from the line and 13 turnovers for 18 Bisons points. Central Arkansas has posted some decent points totals during this losing streak: 71 or more in three of the last five. That said, they’ve given up 72 or more in five of the last six (all losses).
As for West Georgia, they finally played a complete game in their win over North Florida over the weekend. The Wolves have now posted 78 or more points in two of the last three games, but generally, they’re giving up a truckload of scoring on the other side as well. This one’s a “lesser of two evils” scenario and I’m likely avoiding it.
