VMI Keydets Betting Preview
VMI has been fairly busy so far this year. The Keydets have a half-dozen games in the books, notching a .500 run in the record column during that time. VMI opened with a 122-58 blowout versus JWU-Charlotte on November 3, then powered out a 78-74 road win over Southern Indiana in game two. The Keydets’ first loss came in a blowout 106-68 versus Missouri in game three, but they’d recover on a 106-54 blowout of their own versus VA Lynchburg in the next outing. VMI would take a tough defeat 69-67 versus Jacksonville in their next outing, though. The team’s top scorer in that one was TJ Johnson with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes of work.
In their most recent action on Wednesday versus Richmond, the Keydets fell back into the loss column. VMI was down 49-26 at halftime and didn’t get any closer on a 38-28 second half in an 87-54 defeat. The only player on the team to reach double-figures in anything was Jaylen Pazon with 14 points and two rebounds in 19 minutes. Linus Holmstrom got close though, posting nine points in 23 minutes alongside a single rebound.
Stetson Hatters Betting Preview
Over on the Hatters’ side, they opened the year with a road matchup versus Rhode Island. Stetson trailed by 13 points by the half, and ended up falling 93-62. Leading the way was Jamie Phillips with 20 points and five rebounds. Alex Doyle also reached double-digits with 11 points and two rebounds. In their second appearance the Hatters had a much easier game and rolled against Fort Lauderdale. Stetson was up 59-40 by the break and ended up with a 106-77 win. Leading the team again was Phillips with 22 points, seven boards and four assists in 24 minutes of work on the floor. As for game three versus Miami, Stetson took another blowout loss—this time 102-61. Game four was a 76-65 defeat at the hands of Western Carolina. Leading the team in that one were Sean Morgan and Collin Kuhl, each with 12 points.
Matched up against Howard on Wednesday, the Hatters were able to get back into the win column. Stetson scored 31 points in the first half and 33 from there, holding on for a 64-60 result. Collin Kuhl was tops on 14 points and six boards while Jamie Phillips had 13 points and eight rebounds. Jake Johnson added 11 points with three rebounds in the win as well.

VMI vs Stetson Prediction
I’ll probably stick with VMI here, but there’s not a lot of intrigue involved with both teams struggling. The Keydets really need a good bounce-back effort as well, since they looked pretty ugly in their blowout loss to Richmond. VMI shot just 36.7 percent from the field in that one and missed 10 of their 20 free throw attempts. The 16 turnovers and 32-25 rebounding deficit only served to put the team back further. The Keydets were above 68 points in three of their first four games but they’ve been below 68 in consecutive outings now. There should be some scoring opportunities here if all goes well, though; Stetson has given up 76 or more points in four of five games this season.
