Valparaiso Beacons Betting Preview
The Beacons took a big step forward in the 2024-25 season, going 15-19 overall. That was major improvement from the 7-24 record the year before. Valparaiso notched a rough 6-14 run in the Missouri Valley Conference games though, leaving them ahead of only Missouri State in the standings. The Beacons ended the regular season on a 3-3 run but then caught fire with a couple of conference tournament wins over UIC and Northern Iowa. Valparaiso would fall to Bradley in the semifinal however, ending their season for good.
On Tuesday in their 2025-26 opener versus Eastern Illinois, the Beacons went into the locker room with a 31-25 advantage. Valparaiso got outscored by three points the rest of the way but held on for the 66-63 win in the end. Isaiah Barnes doubled up as the top scorer on 15 points and 10 boards, while JT Pettigrew had 13 points and four rebounds. Rakim Chaney finished in double-figures as well with 12 points in 24 minutes of work.
Kentucky Wildcats Betting Preview
Over on the Kentucky side, they did a pretty good job in a crowded and tough SEC last season, all things considered. The Wildcats finished the year on a 24-12 clip, going 10-8 in the conference. That effort put Kentucky behind Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas A&M in the standings. After an SEC Tournament win over Oklahoma, the Wildcats fell versus Alabama in game two. Kentucky would get a bid in the NCAA Tournament after that, taking out Troy and Illinois on the way to a Sweet Sixteen loss to Tennessee on March 28.
Kentucky has one game in the books already as well. They took on Nicholls State in opener action Tuesday. In that matchup the Wildcats held a 28-15 edge by the second half. Kentucky kept it up from there on a 49-36 run and took the home win 77-51. Collin Chandler was tops on 15 points, four assists and two rebounds, while Otega Oweh had 13 points with three rebounds . Jasper Johnson added 11 points and four assists, and Denzel Aberdeen had 10 points, six assists and five boards in the victory effort.

Valparaiso vs Kentucky Prediction
I’ll stick with Kentucky, but I’m probably staying away. The line’s too thick to mess with. The Wildcats didn’t have much trouble at all with Nicholls in their opener, shooting a nice 46.8 percent from the field with 41 rebounds, 21 assists and a 42-20 advantage on points in the paint. That said, there are a few things to clean up for Kentucky, like the tepid 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from outside and the 12-of-22 (54.5 percent) from the line. That’s not going to do it when the tougher games begin, but there’s plenty of time for the Wildcats to get it going.
As for Valpo, they shot a pretty rough 34.5 percent from the field and 21-of-35 (60 percent) from the line in their tight win over Eastern Illinois. The Beacons were pretty competitive everywhere else, however they won’t finish anywhere close on Friday if they don’t make some major improvements across the board.
