Utah State Aggies Betting Preview

The Aggies have been one of the more consistent teams out there this season, but they have lost a couple of matchups in the last two weeks. Utah State opened the season with wins over Alcorn State, Charlotte, Westminster UT, Montana, Iowa, St. Bonaventure, North Texas, Wyoming, Utah Tech, and South Florida, then took a loss to UC San Diego. Wins over Saint Mary’s, San Diego State, Nevada, Fresno State, San Jose State, and Boise State came next, then another loss to UNLV. Since then it’s been wins over Nevada, Air Force, and UNLV ahead of a loss to New Mexico for the Aggies, giving them a 19-3 overall record through 22 games. 

In the New Mexico matchup on Saturday, the Aggies came out of halftime with a 36-30 advantage. Utah State fell apart in the second however, getting outscored 52-27 along the way to an 82-63 defeat in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Drake Allen, who came off the bench for 14 points, two assists, and two blocks in 31 minutes. Deyton Albury added 12 points with two assists and two steals, while Ian Martinez had 10 points with five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes of action. 

Wyoming Cowboys Betting Preview

Over on the Wyoming side, they’ve been a mixed bag so far this year—hence the .500 campaign in the record column. The Cowboys went 5-1 over their first six with wins over Concordia St. Paul, Tennessee State, Utah Tech, SE Louisiana, and Tulane, then fell to LMU, Utah State, South Dakota, and BYU in the next four. A 4-1 run came next with wins over Bellarmine, Cal State Fullerton, Nevada, and Air Force, then a 2-5 run. Those losses came to New Mexico, Boise State, Colorado State, San Jose State, and San Diego State with wins over UNLV and Fresno State otherwise for an 11-11 overall run this year for the Cowboys. 

Matched up against San Diego State in their Saturday game, the Cowboys were down by three points going into the second half. Wyoming got better from there on a 36-35 run but eventually lost 63-61. Dontaie Allen was tops in the losing effort on 18 points and six boards. Obi Agbim had 12 points with four rebounds and six assists, while Jordan Nesbitt chipped in with nine points, one rebound, and one assist in 22 minutes of work on the court.

Utah State vs Wyoming Prediction 

I’ll probably just stay with Utah State. The Aggies are coming off a miserable second half in their latest loss to a pretty good New Mexico team, eventually notching 37.5 percent shooting from the field, just 16.1 percent (5-of-31) from outside, and only 10-of-23 (43.5 percent) from the line. The 48-33 rebounding deficit didn’t help either. It was an all-around bad showing. 

The good news for the Aggies is that they were able to handle Wyoming the first time these teams met up this season, taking a 70-67 home win back on December 4. In that one, Utah State didn’t shoot very well either (41.1 percent) but had a firm grasp on the rebounding edge 35-27. The Aggies need a massive turnaround for this road rematch, and I think they’ll get it in a bounce-back effort.
