Texas-Arlington Mavericks Betting Preview

The Mavericks have had some rough times this year, but they’ve been able to crawl back to .500 recently. TX-Arlington opened on a 7-7 run with wins over UNT Dallas, Texas College, Austin Peay, LA-Monroe (twice), Evansville, and Texas State. Following a losing streak to Tarleton State, Utah Tech, Southern Utah, and Utah Valley, the Mavs have since won four straight. Those have come versus Seattle U, Abilene Christian, Southern Utah, and Utah Tech, giving the team an 11-11 overall run through the first 22 games of the year. 

In the Utah Tech matchup on Saturday, the Mavericks trailed by two points going into the second half. Texas-Arlington hit a 43-39 run the rest of the way however, and nailed the comeback win 73-71 in the end. Both Jaden Wells and Brody Robinson (seven assists) chipped in 15 points each, while Lance Ware notched a double-double on 10 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and one assist in 39 minutes of action. 

Utah Valley Wolverines Betting Preview

Over on the Utah Valley side, they posted a shaky opening run through mid-December but they’ve been looking much better since then. The Wolverines were just 5-6 in their opening 11 outings, losing to North Dakota, Samford, North Dakota State, Stanford, James Madison and Jacksonville State. A win streak began after that with victories over Idaho State, Weber State, Bethesda U, Abilene Christian, Grand Canyon, Cal Baptist, Texas Arlington, Utah Tech, Cal Baptist, and Seattle U before a loss to Grand Canyon. The result so far has been a 15-7 overall record for the Wolverines through 22 outings. 

Matched up against Grand Canyon over the weekend, Utah Valley didn’t look very good. The Wolverines were down 37-24 by the break and didn’t end up getting any closer on a 38-33 second half for a 75-57 defeat. Dominick Nelson led the team with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Osiris Grady added 12 points with four rebounds in 22 minutes as the only other team player to finish in double-figures during the loss.

Texas-Arlington vs Utah Valley Prediction 

I’ll stay with Utah Valley. The Wolverines need a good bounce-back effort after getting punched by a talented Grand Canyon team in their last outing, but this is a nice spot to get it. Utah Valley posted just 32.8 percent shooting with a 42-33 rebounding deficit and 13 turnovers for 11 Lopes points in that latest defeat. It was a pretty ugly game all around. The 57 points were Utah Valley’s lowest total of the season as well. They’d scored 70 or more in six straight prior to that. 

Back on January 16 in a road matchup, the Wolverines beat TX-Arlington in overtime 85-83. Utah Valley shot just 23.5 percent from 3-point range and 21-of-31 (67.7 percent) from the line in that one but also scored 19 points off 18 Mavs turnovers. I’d like to see the Wolverines put together a better game in the home rematch (and not rely so much on mistakes) but they should have every advantage.
