UConn Huskies Betting Preview
UConn has a couple of sketchy runs in the books so far this year, but otherwise, they’ve been a consistent team in the record column. The Huskies won four straight to start the season, then fell in successive games to Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton. Wins over MD Eastern Shore, Baylor, Texas, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, DePaul, and Providence followed, then a 3-3 stretch. Those wins came versus Georgetown, Butler, and DePaul. Otherwise, it was losses to Villanova, Creighton, and Xavier in that time for a 15-6 overall run through the first 21 games so far.Â
In the DePaul matchup on Wednesday, the Huskies came out of the first half holding a 37-29 deficit. UConn came back with a vengeance from there on a 43-24 run and took the comeback win at home 72-61. Solo Ball led the starters with 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists with a pair of blocks and one steal. Tarris Reed came off the bench to add 16 points as well, with six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in 24 minutes on the floor.Â
Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview
Over on the Marquette side, they’ve got just one spotty three-game run so far this year. The Golden Eagles otherwise have notched just one defeat. Following wins in their first eight games out of the gate, Marquette took losses to Iowa State and Dayton sandwiched around a win over Wisconsin during a 1-2 stretch in mid-December. since then the Golden Eagles have only one loss on January 18 (by two points) versus Xavier. Otherwise, it’s been a string of wins versus Butler, Xavier, Providence, Creighton, Georgetown, DePaul, Seton Hall, Villanova, and Butler in that time for a nice 18-3 overall record through the first 21 outings of the campaign.Â
In the Butler rematch on the road Tuesday, the Eagles held a 42-35 deficit in the locker room. Marquette woke up after the break though, surging on a 43-27 run for a 78-69 victory in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Stevie Mitchell with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kam Jones added 17 points with four assists, one rebound, and one block, while David Joplin chipped in with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes.Â

UConn vs Marquette PredictionÂ
I’m going to try UConn in this one. You could make a case either way here, though; it’ll be a fun and competitive matchup. The Huskies started a little slowly in their latest win over DePaul but got much better in the second half. UConn ended up shooting 43.6 percent from the field, but the lion’s share of the production came from 15 points off 12 Blue Demons turnovers. The Huskies won’t be able to rely on mistakes Saturday, so they’ll have to sharpen things up in the meantime. UConn has posted 72 or more points in three straight outings, so another game like that should put the team in a pretty solid spot.Â
As for Marquette, they’re looking pretty great during this current 9-1 run. The Eagles have 76 or more points in three straight and 72 or more points in each of their last nine wins. I like this one to be a fairly high-scoring affair as well, with UConn eking one out.Â
