Tulane Green Wave Betting Preview

The Green Wave weren’t looking too great initially this year but they’ve cleaned up their act in the record column lately. Tulane kicked things off on a rough 5-7 run, then took wins over Dillard, Charlotte, UTSA, South Florida and FAU in the next six outings. A spotty 3-3 run came next, featuring wins over Rice, Tulsa and UTSA with losses otherwise to Temple, Memphis and North Texas. Since then it’s been a 6-2 run with losses to Wichita State and East Carolina. The losses in that time were versus Wichita State and East Carolina, giving Tulane a 19-13 overall run through their first 32 games so far this season. 

On Friday versus FAU, Tulane held a 37-32 edge at halftime. The Green Wave scored another 46 points from there on the way to an 83-76 victory. Tops in scoring was Asher Woods with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists and four fouls in 37 minutes of work on the floor.

Memphis Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Memphis side, they had a spotty run going in November/December but outside of that there haven’t been too many mistakes in the record column. The Tigers fell to Auburn, Arkansas State and Mississippi State during a 3-3 stretch late last season, but then bounced back with wins over Ole Miss, FAU, North Texas and East Carolina. After a loss to Temple the Tigers beat Charlotte, Wichita State, UAB, Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, Temple and South Florida ahead of a loss to Wichita State. Since then it’s been wins over FAU, Rice, UAB, UTSA, South Florida and Wichita State. That gives Memphis a 27-5 record so far this year through 32 games. 

Matched up in tournament action versus Wichita State on Friday, the Tigers held a 39-39 tie at the break. Memphis eventually powered out the win 83-80 following a 44-41 advantage in the second half. The Tigers’ leading scorer was PJ Haggerty, who went off for 42 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. The only other player on the team to finish in double-digits was Dain Dainja with 18 points and five rebounds alongside three blocks.

Tulane vs Memphis Prediction 

I’m staying with Memphis. The Tigers could use a shot in the arm after a close call versus Wichita State on Friday, though. In that game Memphis relied heavily on a hot-shooting Haggerty, who took more than twice the amount of field goal attempts as anyone else on the team. The 10 turnovers for 17 Shockers points nearly sank Memphis, but they countered it with a 42-29 rebounding edge and 45.3 percent from the field. That gives the Tigers 83 or more points in five of the six games during this current winning streak. 

These teams last saw each other back on January 30 in a 68-56 road win for Memphis. In that one the Tigers shot a solid 44.8 percent from the field while holding the Wave to just 36.2 percent on the other side. Memphis hit 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from 3-point range as opposed to Tulane’s rough 4-of-24 (16.7 percent) as well. Memphis should have full control here, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wave put up a better fight in the tournament rematch.
