Citadel Bulldogs Betting Preview
The Citadel got off to a pretty good start this year, but it’s been a long string of losses since early December. The Bulldogs beat Erskine, Stetson, North Greenville, St. Andrews, and Toccoa Falls in their first eight games. Since then however, they’ve fallen to Campbell, Central Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Samford, Chattanooga, Furman, East Tennessee State, UNC Greensboro, VMI, Wofford, Western Carolina, Mercer, Samford, and UNC Greensboro in succession. The result in the record books so far has been a 5-17 run for the Citadel across 22 outings.Â
In Wednesday’s game versus UNC Greensboro, the Bulldogs were outpaced 34-32 in the first half. The Citadel fell further behind on a 42-29 run the rest of the way and lost 76-61 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Brody Fox with 20 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Christian Moore added 15 points with six rebounds and one assist, while Cameron Glover added nine points and a steal in seven minutes of work off the bench.Â
VMI Keydets Betting Preview
Over on the Keydets’ side, they’ve had a pretty rough season themselves and are sub-.500 thus far. VMI beat Washington College MD, Bellarmine, Christendom, and Charleston Southern in their first five games, then fell to Pitt, Davidson, Loyola MD, George Washington, and Queens U in the next six. A losing streak to Richmond, East Tennessee State, Mercer, Samford, and Chattanooga came next, then a 5-2 run. Those losses were versus UNC Greensboro and East Tennessee State. Otherwise, it was wins over Western Carolina, the Citadel, Furman, Wofford, and Western Carolina again, giving VMI an 11-13 record through the first 24 outings this year.Â
Matched up against East Tennessee State on Wednesday, the Keydets came out of the break looking up at a 39-26 deficit on the scoreboard. VMI hit a 29-23 run the rest of the way but it wasn’t enough to make the comeback in a 62-55 loss. TJ Johnson led the team with his 15 points and nine boards. Augustinas Kiudulas doubled up with 11 points and 11 boards.Â

The Citadel vs VMI PredictionÂ
I’ll stay with VMI. The Keydets are coming off a rough home loss versus a decent East Tennessee State team though, so they’ve got lots to clean up. VMI hit a miserable 29.4 percent from the field in that one and got outmuscled on the boards 46-43 along the way. The 55 points were the Keydets’ lowest total since way back on November 18 versus Pitt (48). VMI have posted 74 or more points in each of their prior four wins, but they’ve got just 112 combined points in their last two losses.Â
These teams saw each other on January 18 in a 75-70 road win for the Keydets. VMI posted 45.8 percent shooting in that one but also gave up 47.3 percent on the other side. It was a sloppy game overall with VMI contributing 12 of the game’s 23 turnovers (for 16 Bulldogs points). The Keydets’ saving grace was a 36-30 rebounding edge, not to mention 22 points from the line. I’d like to see VMI post a more dominant effort in the home rematch, but a victory and 70-plus points here should be considered a major success for the Keydets—even against a struggling Citadel squad.Â
