Stonehill Skyhawks Betting Preview

Stonehill had a choppy run this year, and they weren’t able to stay above the .500 mark during the regular season. The Skyhawks kicked things off with a 6-7 run over the first 13 games, then beat New Hampshire, Lafayette, St. Francis PA, and Chicago State over the next six outings. A 4-4 run came next with wins over Chicago State, Wagner, St. Francis PA, and Mercyhurst among losses to Le Moyne, Fairleigh Dickinson, Central Connecticut, and LIU. Since then it’s been losses to Wagner, Central Connecticut, and Fairleigh Dickinson ahead of a win over Le Moyne. That gives the Skyhawks a 15-16 overall record through 31 games so far.

In the Le Moyne matchup on Saturday, the Skyhawks faced a 38-31 deficit at the break. Stonehill came back in the second half though, posting a 54-41 run on the way to an 85-79 home victory. Louie Semona led the team with 33 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Nathan McGill added 13 points with seven boards and two assists, while Ethan Meuser put up 11 points with three assists and one rebound in 29 minutes of work.

Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Fairleigh Dickinson side, they’ve had a pretty rough year overall and are currently sitting far below the .500 mark. The Knights won just four of their first 15 games to kick things off, then beat Wagner and Le Moyne on the road ahead of losses to St. Francis PA, and Central Connecticut at home. A 5-2 run came next featuring losses to Mercyhurst and Central Connecticut among wins over Chicago State, Stonehill, Le Moyne, Wagner, and Chicago State again. Since then, however, it’s been a 1-4 run with a lone win over Stonehill among losses to LIU, Mercyhurst, St. Francis PA, and LIU again. In total across 31 games that gives the Knights a rough 12-19 record overall.

Matched up against LIU in the home rematch over the weekend, the Knights hit a one-point advantage in the first half. FDU was blitzed 43-23 the rest of the way, however, resulting in a 74-55 blowout loss. Terrence Brown led the way in the losing effort with 13 points, four steals, and four rebounds. Bismark Nsiah added 11 points with 12 rebounds, while Ahmed Barba-Bey had 10 points with two rebounds in 21 minutes of work in the defeat.

Why the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights will win

  • Stonehill has lost 17 of its last 19 road games against Conference opponents.
  • The home team has won eight of Stonehill’s last nine games.
  • Fairleigh Dickinson has won the first half in each of its last five Conference Tournament games at Bogota Savings Bank Center.

Why the Stonehill Skyhawks will win

  • Fairleigh Dickinson has lost four of its last five games.

Matchup/League Facts

  • Stonehill ranks 44th among Division 1 teams for opponent three-point field goals made per game this season (6.5).

Stonehill vs Fairleigh Dickinson Prediction

I’ll lean toward Fairleigh Dickinson but I’m probably not touching this one. The Knights imploded in the second half of their latest loss to LIU, posting just 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) from outside and coughing up 18 turnovers for 22 Sharks points. That makes four losses in the last five games for FDU, with fewer than 59 points scored in three of those defeats.

The good news for Fairleigh Dickinson is that they’ve won both matchups between these teams: 65-54 on the road on January 26 and 82-69 at home on February 27. Stonehill is coming off a win Saturday and will likely be in good spirits despite losing three straight (with fewer than 70 points each time) prior to that victory. In any case, I like FDU to have the advantage at home but I’m staying away.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Fairleigh Dickinson Knights -2.5
