Saint Louis Billikens Betting Preview

The Billikens had a rough stretch of games in December, but other than that they’ve been doing a pretty solid job in the record column so far this season. St. Louis opened on a 5-2 stretch with wins over Avila, Loyola Marymount, Quinnipiac, UMass Lowell, and Jackson State alongside losses to Santa Clara and Wichita State. A 1-4 run came next with a lone win over Chicago State among losses to San Francisco, Illinois State, Wofford, and Grand Canyon. Since then the Billikens have looked good with a 6-1 stretch. The lone loss in that time came versus VCU. Otherwise, it was wins over William Woods, Fordham, St. Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure, Richmond, and La Salle for a 12-7 overall record through the first 19 games of the year.

In the La Salle game on Wednesday, the Billikens came out of the break looking at a 31-25 advantage. St. Louis hit a 33-27 run the rest of the way for a 64-52 win in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Robbie Avila with 21 points, eight boards, five assists, and two steals. Kalu Anya doubled up on 11 points with 13 rebounds, and Gibson Jimerson chipped in with 11 points, five boards, two assists, and a steal during the victory.

George Washington Revolutionaries Betting Preview

Over on the George Washington side, they were able to maintain a great run through their first 16 games of the season. The Revolutionaries have fallen on hard times lately, though. In their 7-2 start, George Washington lost to only Kansas State and American U among wins over Mercyhurst, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, NJIT, Louisiana, Illinois State, and VMI. A 6-1 stretch came next with a lone loss to Richmond among winds over Old Dominion, Army, Lafayette, UVA Wise, Dayton, and Rhode Island. Since then, however, the Revolutionaries have lost three straight. Those defeats have come at the hands of Duquesne, George Mason, and UMass in succession, giving George Washington a 13-6 overall record through their 19 games this year.

In the UMass matchup back on Wednesday, the Revolutionaries came out of the locker room with a 36-29 deficit. George Washington wasn’t able to gain any ground in the second half on a 38-32 run and took the loss 74-61 in the end. Leading the team in the defeat was Rafael Castro with his 23 points, seven boards, and one assist. Christian Jones was the only other player on the team to finish in double-figures, notching 10 points with six assists and two steals.

Why the George Washington Revolutionaries will win

  • George Washington has won 10 of its last 11 games at Charles E. Smith Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Saint Louis Billikens will win

  • Saint Louis has won each of its last six day games against the Atlantic 10 Conference.
  • George Washington has lost nine of its last 10 day games against Conference opponents.
  • George Washington has lost the first half in five of its last six games against the Atlantic 10 Conference at Charles E. Smith Center.

St. Louis vs George Washington Prediction

I’ll try St. Louis in this one. The Billikens didn’t have too many issues with a struggling La Salle team in their last outing, shooting 42.4 percent from the field with 42 rebounds. The one glaring blemish, however, was St. Louis’ 18 turnovers for 16 Explorers points. Ball control is going to have to be a priority moving forward. The Billikens have made up for it with defense over the last two games though, giving up a combined 111 points in that pair. George Washington is going to be a tricky matchup for the Billikens, but given the fact that the Revolutionaries have scored fewer than 66 in two of the last three (all losses), I think St. Louis has a good shot on Saturday.

Andrew Jett's Pick: St. Louis Billikens +1
