Southern Jaguars Betting Preview
The Jaguars struggled early in the season, but since the calendar flipped over to 2025 they’ve been doing much better. Southern lost to South Dakota, Iowa, East Texas A&M, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, LMU, USC, and Nebraska during a 5-8 start. Next came wins over Texas Southern, Prairie View, Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Grambling, AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, and Alabama A&M. After a loss to Alabama State, Southern took out Prairie View, Texas Southern, and Grambling in the next trio for an 18-9 start over the first 27 games of the year.Â
On Saturday versus Bethune-Cookman in a road matchup, Southern took a 38-37 deficit into the second half. The Jaguars kept the pace from there on a 32-32 run but couldn’t climb back in an eventual loss of 70-69. Leading the team in scoring was Michael Jacobs, who came off the bench for 19 points with four rebounds and three assists. DaMariee Jones added 11 bench points and three steals, while Derrick Tenezo led the starters with 10 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes.Â
Florida A&M Rattlers Betting Preview
Over on the Florida A&M side, they had a nice run in January and February but aside from that it’s been a rough year. The Rattlers opened on a 3-11 stretch featuring wins over only Trinity Baptist, Presbyterian, and Trinity FL. A 9-1 run came next though, with a loss to Alabama State among wins over AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, Prairie View, Jackson State, and Alcorn State. The next pair were both losses to Alabama State and Alabama A&M though, giving Florida A&M a 12-14 record across the first 26 games this year.Â
Matched up against Grambling over the weekend, the Rattlers managed a 30-28 halftime edge. Florida A&M kept it going in the second half during a 43-40 run and took the win in the end 73-68. Roderick Coffee led the team with 19 points with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sterling Young added 17 points with one steal in 24 minutes off the bench.Â
Why the Florida A&M Rattlers will win

Southern vs Florida A&M PredictionÂ
I’ll stay with Southern here. The Jaguars are coming off a spotty loss to Bethune-Cookman, though. Southern shot pretty well overall in that one (46-4 percent) but got outmuscled on the boards 36-30 and had 15 turnovers for 17 Wildcats points. It was only the Jaguars’ second loss since 2025 began though, and they’ve been scoring quite well during that time.Â
Back on January 11 when these teams last met in Baton Rouge, Southern powered through a blowout win at home 91-57. The Jaguars shot very well in that one, notching 53.2 percent from the field alongside a 34-25 rebounding advantage, 20 assists, and just six turnovers. Southern scored 24 points off 15 Florida A&M turnovers as well, holding the Rattlers to just 40 percent from the field. The Jaguars likely won’t have it so easy in the road rematch, but I still think they’ll pull off the cover.Â
