The Saint Peter’s Peacocks and the Seton Hall Pirates meet Monday in college basketball action from the Prudential Center. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Saint Peter’s vs. Seton Hall prediction.
Saint Peter’s Recap
The Saint Peter’s Peacocks come into the 2024-25 season looking to build on a decent season in year two under Bashir Mason, going 19-14 overall, including 12-8 in MAAC conference play. The Peacocks took out Rider, Quinnipiac and Fairfield on the way to the MAAC title, but the Peacocks’ stay in the NCAA tournament was short-lived as they were knocked out by Tennessee in the first round. The Peacocks have to figure out how to replace two all-conference players in Corey Washington and Latrell Reid, with Reid being a conference defensive player of the year, first being who is going to lead the offense at point guard. The continuity is there for the most part for Mason, but the Peacocks are going to have to rely on defense and have to bide their time as this lineup gets acclimated to a heavier workload with no returning Peacock seeing more than 23.3 MPG last season.
Why the Saint Peter’s Peacocks will win
- Saint Peter’s has won five of its last six day games against non-Conference opponents.
Seton Hall Recap
The Seton Hall Pirates will be out to replicate a fairly successful 2023-24 season where the Pirates finished 25-12 overall including a 13-7 mark in Big East play. The Pirates would be taken out in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament and wouldn’t do enough to go to the NCAA tournament. The Pirates ended up in the NIT where they knocked off Saint Joseph’s, North Texas, UNLV, Georgia and Indiana State to win the NIT. Like the Peacocks, Seton Hall has to try to replace some of their key pieces from last year’s team, like Kadary Richmond, Dre Davis, Al-Amir Dawes and Jaden Bediako. That being said, Shaheen Holloway did a good job in the transfer portal, bringing in pieces like Evansville’s Yacine Toumi (10.8 PPG, 6.5 RPG), Chaunce Jenkins from Old Dominion (15.9 PPG) and Zion Harmon (14.6 PPG, 4 APG). There’s a lot of size on this roster, but it’s going to take more than height to contend in the Big East for Seton Hall this season.
Why the Seton Hall Pirates will win
- Saint Peter’s has lost each of its last 10 games against the Big East Conference.
- Seton Hall has won 22 of its last 23 day games against non-Conference opponents at Prudential Center.
Saint Peter’s vs. Seton Hall Prediction
I’m leaning towards the under here. I think that Saint Peter’s path to success is to ugly this game up and make it defensive, slow and physical, mainly because I don’t trust Saint Peter’s offensively if I’m being completely honest. The Pirates are a decent team that did some reloading from a talent perspective, but in the end I don’t think that’s enough for me to lay a big number with them here. All in all I lean towards the under in this one.
