Radford Highlanders Betting Preview

Radford has a couple of sketchy runs in the books so far this year, but overall they’re not doing too badly record-wise. The Highlanders went 9-2 over the first 11 games, beating William & Mary, Old Dominion, Evansville, Southern Virginia, Chicago State, Fort Wayne, St. Francis PA, NC Central, and Bucknell in that time. A 1-4 run came next with losses to Utah, Colorado State, South Carolina, and High Point. Since then the Highlanders are 6-4 with losses to Charleston Southern, Longwood, UNC Asheville, and High Point. The wins otherwise came versus Winthrop, USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, USC Upstate again, and Longwood. That gives Radford a 16-10 overall record so far this year through 26 outings. 

In the Longwood matchup on Saturday, the Highlanders came into the game with a 38-32 first-half advantage. Radford fell behind 37-33 in the second half but eventually won 71-69 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Brandon Maclin, who scored 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Truth Harris added 12 points with three assists and one steal, while Josiah Harris had 11 points and seven boards. 

Winthrop Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Winthrop side, they were able to go 9-3 over their first 12 games. Those wins were over Piedmont, Little Rock, William & Mary, NC Central, LIU, Averett, Queens U, Coastal Carolina, and Bob Jones. A spotty 4-6 run came next with wins over Mercer, USC Upstate, Longwood, and Charleston Southern among losses to Florida State, Indiana, Radford, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, and High Point. Since then Winthrop has hit a four-game win streak over Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, and USC Upstate. Overall it’s been a 17-9 record across the first 25 games of the season for the Eagles. 

Matched up against USC Upstate in their Saturday outing, the Eagles came out of the locker room with a 52-49 edge. Winthrop hit a 53-46 run the rest of the way during a 105-95 victory in the end. Leading the scoring was Kelton Talford with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Kasen Harrison added 20 points with nine assists and one steal in the win as well.

Radford vs Winthrop Prediction 

I’m going to try Radford in this one. Overall, we should have a pretty fun matchup here, though. The Highlanders powered past a decent Longwood team in a road win during their last outing, hitting 49 percent from the field with a 31-27 rebounding advantage. Radford did miss seven of their 20 free throws (65 percent) and had 12 turnovers, though. Still, that makes 71 or more points in three straight games (a 2-1 run) for the Highlanders. 

These teams last saw each other back on January 4 in an 87-67 home win for the Highlanders. Radford shot very well (51.9 percent) in that one, and the Eagles didn’t (35.6 percent). The 42-29 rebounding advantage helped the Highlanders immensely as well. I like Winthrop to play better in their home rematch, but I think Radford ultimately powers one out here. It should be a fun matchup to watch, regardless of who you’re rooting for. If both teams play well we’ll have a close game most of the way.
