Northern Colorado Bears Betting Preview

The Bears opened the year on a choppy run but it’s been much better since early December. After a 6-5 start, Northern Colorado beat Air Force, Denver, Weber State Idaho State, Montana State, Montana, Portland State, and Sac State in the next eight. A 7-3 run came in the next 10 games with losses to Idaho, Montana, and Portland State. Otherwise, it was wins over Sac State, Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona, Idaho State, Montana State, Sac State, Eastern Washington, and Idaho in that time, giving the Bears a 21-8 run through the first 29 outings. 

On Saturday versus Northern Arizona, the Bears held a 44-33 edge by the break. Northern Colorado kept the pace pretty well the rest of the way on a 40-39 run and took the eventual win 83-73. Topping the scorers were Langston Reynolds (five rebounds; two assists) and Jaron Rillie (seven rebounds; two assists), each with 20 points. Isaiah Hawthorne added 16 points with three rebounds in 29 minutes as well. 

Weber State Wildcats Betting Preview

Over on the Weber State side, they’re far below the .500 mark with only a few brief runs of solid play. The Wildcats went 6-6 across their first dozen, then fell to Utah Valley, Oregon, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, Montana, Montana State, and Portland State (with a win over Idaho State) in the next eight. A 4-6 run came from there featuring wins over Sac State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, and Eastern Washington among losses to Idaho, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana State, Montana, and Sacramento State. Through 30 games that would give the Wildcats an 11-19 overall record. 

Matched up against Idaho in their weekend outing, the Wildcats were down 29-27 at halftime but came back to force overtime during an eventual loss 81-79. Blaise Threatt led the team with 32 points, nine assists, and six rebounds, while Trevor Hennig added 17 points with four rebounds and two steals in 43 minutes of work. 

Northern Colorado vs Weber State Prediction 

I’m going to lean toward Northern Colorado. The Bears put away a decent Northern Arizona team in a road matchup over the weekend, hitting a nice 62.5 percent from the field along the way. Northern Colorado has plenty to clean up though, as they hit a tepid 16-of-24 (66.7 percent) from the line and had 14 turnovers for 15 Lumberjacks points. Still, it’s been a good run for the Bears lately. They’ve hit 83 or more points in three straight games, winning each of those. 

These teams last saw each other back on January 2 in an 89-72 home win for the Bears. In that one, Northern Colorado shot very well on 58.8 percent from the field, 50 percent (12-of-24) from 3-point range, and 81 percent (17-of-21) from the line. The 30-25 rebounding edge helped, but it was a sloppy game overall with the Bears posting 14 of the 27 total turnovers for 14 Wildcats points. Northern Colorado needs to clean up the mistakes in the rematch, but should still be in control if all goes well.
