New Haven vs Syracuse Prediction

I’ll lean toward Syracuse. The Orange fanbase seems to be feeling pretty good with McNamara in town again, as he’s something of a legend when it comes to Syracuse basketball. There will be something of an uphill battle this season though, as the team is without a returning starter, a Top 100 recruit or a transfer from a Power 5 school. The Orange will have to rely on a naturally-built roster this season.

As for New Haven, they’re still getting a feel for the Division I level and we won’t be seeing them in the NCAA Tournament until at least 2029. That said, there’s plenty here to build on, and the Chargers could do some damage in the NEC if all goes well. Big games like this will help the team’s confidence as they navigate the conference schedule further down the road.

New Haven Chargers Betting Preview

The Chargers put together a fairly middling record in 2025-26. New Haven finished 14-17 overall with a 9-9 run in Northeast Conference games. That would put the Chargers in fifth place behind LIU, Central Connecticut, Mercyhurst and Le Moyne. New Haven finished out the year on a 5-2 stretch. They’re entering the second season of a three-year transition to Division I.

This year will be the 17th season for New Haven under head coach Ted Hotaling. He’ll get five returning players from last year’s squad in an effort to develop some continuity. Some of the key returnees include Kheni Briggs, Teshaun Steele, Aidan Losiewicz and Zoumana Traore, all of whom should have big roles this season.

Syracuse Orange Betting Preview

Over on the Syracuse side, they got lost in a tough Atlantic Coast Conference last season. The Orange went a tepid 15-17 overall with a 6-12 run in the ACC. That result left the team ahead of only Pitt, Notre Dame, Boston College and Georgia Tech in the standings. Syracuse lost their first game of the conference tournament 86-69 versus SMU to end the season for good.

This year the Orange will hit the reset button at head coach, bringing in Gerry McNamara for his first season at the helm. He’ll have a couple of potentially big producers off last season’s team in Sadiq White (6.1 PPG) and Kiyan Anthony (8.0 PPG), both entering this year as sophomores.
