Lamar Cardinals Betting Preview
Last season Lamar made a minor improvement over the 19 wins in the 2023-24 campaign. The Cards ended up going 20-13 overall with a 14-6 run in the Southland Conference, which would put the team in second place among the standings behind only McNeese (and with a one-game edge over Nicholls). After beating Nicholls in the final game of the regular season, Lamar did it again in the first outing of the Southland Tournament. In the championship matchup versus McNeese however, the Cardinals fell 63-54 which ended their year for good.
Lamar has just one game under their belt so far this season. That one came last Monday versus Texas A&M-San Antonio. The Cardinals didn’t have too many issues there, rolling to a 46-26 first-half advantage. Following a 47-27 run from there, Lamar had a 93-53 blowout win at home. Jayden Gambrell was the leading team scorer with 27 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Andrew Holifield added 19 points with four rebounds, and Cody Pennebaker had 14 points with five rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes of work during the victory.
TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview
Over on the TCU side, they’ve got two games under their belt so far this year. The first came last Monday against New Orleans, and the Frogs were stunned with a 44-28 deficit in the first half. TCU fought back from there on a 46-34 run but it wasn’t enough in a 78-74 loss. Leading the way in the losing effort was David Punch with 19 points and eight boards in 30 minutes. Micah Robinson added 14 points with six rebounds, while both Jayden Pierre and Xavier Edmonds each had 11 points and two rebounds in the defeat.
TCU got it going much better in their second game on Thursday versus St. Francis PA. In that one the Frogs went into the break with a 53-29 edge, and closed on a 51-34 run for a 104-63 victory in the end. Tanner Toolson topped the team this time with 25 points and two boards, while Robinson doubled up on 13 points with 10 rebounds. Edmonds added 12 points with nine boards and Punch scored 11 with eight rebounds and three assists in the win.

Lamar vs TCU Prediction
I’ll stick with TCU. The Frogs opened up with a very sluggish first half versus New Orleans, but they’ve played a lot better since then. In their latest win over St. Francis PA, TCU ended up shooting a nice 52.3 percent from the field with 24-of-28 (85.7 percent) from the line and a 44-18 rebounding edge. The Frogs had 21 team assists and owned the paint 42-34 but also coughed up 15 turnovers along the way. Still, it was a much-needed dominant effort at home following the mild shock of the opener loss to New Orleans.
As for Lamar, they didn’t have to many issues against an overmatched Texas A&M-San Antonio team in their opener—unless you count the 14 turnovers. The Cardinals shot quite well in that one (52.4 percent) and they’ll need the hot hand on Monday if they’re going to stay close. In the end, I don’t think it’ll be enough to cover.
