Kansas Has Disappointed
There isn’t any other way to put it: Kansas has been a major disappointment this season. In the last game against Texas Tech, Kansas fought back in the second half, but they still lost by five points. Kansas shot 48.3 percent from the field but only 22.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Even though they lost, one of the big positives to come out of it was the play of KJ Adams, who put up 21 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. If he can continue the strong play, maybe this season isn’t over for the Jayhawks.Â
Kansas has a 19-10 record overall, and they have gone 13-16 against the spread. Away from home, they have gone 4-7 straight up. The Jayhawks are averaging 75.8 points, while their defense is giving up 67.7 points per game. The defense is ranked 61st, and they will need the defense to step up again. Zeke Mayo also had only five points in the last game and will need to be better here. If he can get into an early groove, that would help the Jayhawks’ chances. If he’s not hitting his shots from deep, it’s going to be very hard for this team to win. Hunter Dickinson has been the top plate,r averaging 16.9 points while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. Â
Houston Just Keeps Winning
With the NCAA Tournament only a couple of weeks away, Houston is hot, and they keep winning games (eight in a row, to be exact.) Two games ago against Texas Tech, they won 69-61 on the road, and in the last game against Cincinnati, they picked up the 73-64 victory. Houston shot 53.6 percent from the field, but only three of those shots came from deep. This is an elite three-point shooting team, and they will need to get back to that shooting here. LJ Cryer was the top player, putting up 20 points, one rebound, and one assist.Â
This is a solid offensive team, but what is leading this team to success is the defense. The Cougars are giving up only 58 points per game, tops in all of college basketball. They want to make life challenging, and slowing down the Jayhawks’ shots from deep will be key. Houston is shooting 39.79 percent from deep, which is 3rd best in college basketball. Cryer has been the top player, averaging 14.8 points while shooting 41.4 percent from the field.Â
Total Points Facts
- Each of Kansas’ last six road games has produced a total of 135+ points.
- Four of Houston’s last five games against Conference opponents at Fertitta Center have produced a total of 135+ points.
Kansas vs Houston Prediction
Kansas would have won the first game against Houston this year if they hadn’t blown it in the last 20 seconds. Even though Kansas has had its issues this season, this team still has playmakers. Zeke Mayo won’t have his second straight dud game, and he will find some offensive success from deep here. Hunter Dickinson put up 17 points in the first game against Houston and will go even higher than that here. Houston will still win the game, but only by a basket or two. This is just way too many points to give this Jayhawks team. Back Kansas against the spread.Â
