Jackson State Tigers Betting Preview

The Tigers started out the year on a pretty miserable run, but they’ve played a whole lot better since the calendar flipped over to 2025. Jackson State hit an ugly 0-13 opening stretch lasting from November 4 to January 4. Wins came in the next four games though, as the Tigers took out Alcorn State, Alabama State, Alabama A&M and Prairie View A&M. A 2-3 run came next with wins over Bethune-Cookman and Grambling amid losses to Texas Southern, Florida A&M, and Grambling. Following wins over MS Valley State and AR-Pine Bluff, Jackson State had an 8-16 record through their first 24 games of the year. 

In their game versus Florida A&M over the weekend, the Tigers were down by 11 points going into the second half. Jackson State posted a 42-36 run the rest of the way but still lost 76-71. Top team scorer Shannon Grant finished with 14 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes. 

Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Betting Preview

Over on the Bethune-Cookman side, they started out on an ugly run themselves, but they’ve similarly been better since early January. The Wildcats were able to win just three of their first 13 games, taking out only South Carolina State, North Dakota, and South Florida. A 4-1 run came next with a lone loss to Southern in the middle of wins over Florida A&M, Grambling, MS Valley State, and AR-Pine Bluff. After two more losses to Jackson State and Alcorn State, the Wildcats picked it up again with wins over Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Prairie View, and Texas Southern. That gave B-CU an 11-13 overall run through 24 games. 

Matched up against Alcorn State on Saturday, the Wildcats were down by nine points going into the second half. B-CU got better from there on a 44-39 run but still lost 78-74 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Trey Thomas with 28 points, three assists, two steals, and two boards. Kalil Camara added 16 points, as did Seneca Willoughby. Daniel Rouzan put up 10 rebounds with four points as well.

I’ll try the Wildcats in this one, but they need a good bounce-back after their last game. On Saturday Bethune-Cookman shot pretty well from the field (46.8 percent) and had a 33-31 rebounding edge but got burned by mistakes. The Wildcats coughed up 16 turnovers for 21 Alcorn State points. The loss halts a four-game win streak, but B-CU has scored 74 or more in four straight games still. 

Back on January 25 when these teams last met up, Jackson State pulled off an 86-81 home victory. Both teams shot pretty well, with the Wildcats hitting 45.8 percent and Jackson State pulling off 47.5 percent. The rebounding was comparable as well. The big mismatch, however, was the 18 Bethune-Cookman turnovers for 20 Tigers points. I like the Wildcats to clean things up in the home rematch and get a little revenge. It should be a pretty fun matchup overall if both teams play well, though.
